Two hole rocket problem

Post by ronman »

I just finished my 2 hole rocket and it sounds great except for two problems, that I think are tied together. The first problem is a hum without the guitar pugged in.but when I probe pin 2 of the phase inverter with my voltmeter the hum stops it reads 36 volts also when I turn up the cut control I get kind of a fuzz distortion on the bass notes with the control all the way down it sounds pretty good.

Thanks
Ron

External hum/buzz source perhaps?

You may have other issues but

I found out the hard way with money and time that a GE Helical money saver light bulb in the stairway down to my work bench was the cause for all the hum and raspy pulsating buzz.

The PI caps seemed to have DC inducing to the treble pot and cut pot when all the time it was the friggin light bulb.

any pics. Curious if you have the phase inverter grounded correctly.

That's not strange at all..... those lamps are just fluorescents in disguise , - with an electronic starter and all.....
You need to find an old fashion "glow lamp", as it's called around here... :)

And you better stock up on incandescents if you want 'em because they will start being phased out in 2012 in the US : http://www.wnd.com/?pageId=45156

The fact that CFLs won't light in temps below about 25F will really save alot of energy. I tried to be green and installed them in my outside fixtures. Total joke and waste of money. Enough of the derailment.

thats funny, but true. maybe they will include heat tapes to go with bulbs. :D

did your ground the output jacks? try that if you didn't. Sounds more like a lead dress, or your getting an oscilation. Maybe use some shielded wire on the grids of the stages before the PI.

fixed the problem with the rocket by moving the output transformer over with the power transformer .
