Rocket Build - Suggestions for Best Parts and sourcing order
I'm starting a Rocket build by sourcing the parts effective immediately!
What parts have gotten the best reviews? Which transformers sound the best? Are there other part brands that favor the circuit well?
Also, is there a best way to source the parts in any particular order? Like if I wanted to get started and order parts along the way, is that possible?
I found all the files and the BOM. That is some great work done by Ron!
Any suggestions would be awesome!!!!

Yo
Im getting rocket build parts from rj guitars this week,Ill see if I can send you the B.O.M.,He uses great stuff and is very nice.He sells everthing really reasonable. The parts come really nicely organized,Ill see if I can post some pics OK,Mikey
rj
rj is a great guy and has much if not all of what you need. Are you going to do the Standard Rocket or will you be implementing reverb or any other mods? Its good to plan this out in advance if you do think you might add some of these features in the future.
Have fun

How much more complicated is the reverb rocket?angelodp wrote:rj, is a great guy and has much if not all of what you need. One more tube a reverb driver transformer some more caps and resitors, two RCA plugs and the reverb tank.
If you follow Normster's layouts, rj and Rawnster's layouts and schematics it is not harder just more components.

The components in the BOMs are the closest commercially available that I could find to those used by KF in the originals.
The only exception might be the trannies, the Pacifics are probably better than the Heyboers l have listed.

Heyboers, already got them coming!!Ron Worley wrote:The components in the BOMs are the closest commercially available that I could find to those used by KF in the originals.

The BOM is great, there are a couple parts I'm having a bit of trouble getting, but I will find them.
The octal socket for the rectifier isn't available at MOJO. Does it have to be a cinch socket, or does it just have to be one that has a solid electrical connection to the chassis for the ground?
Also, does the type of solid core wire matter? In the KF interview's on youtube, he only talks about the strategy being solid core to keep phase correct and reduce inductance...copper is copper right?

Thanks...but which socket? Does it matter? There was specifics on the BOM for the cap ground...The point is to have a metal connection at the lug for the caps ground, right?? And have a 1.125" hole? Is that it, or are there other differences to the rocket octal socket I should look out for?

Here's one with the gound connections on the socket housing:

Here's another one at the top of this page:

Unfortunately I don't see one of the above sockets with a smaller diameter than 1 1/4". Yet, you don't need those. Simply buy one with the correct diameter and connect a solder/ground lug to the nearest bolt used to fasten the recto socket. Look here...about half way down you'll see the solder lugs. Use the ones with two solder holes.

Attached is a pic of my rocket build. Sorry it's not a better pic of the recto. But if you look closely, under the yellow wire is a ground lug that is attached underneath the nut that holds the recto socket in place. I soldered my filtersection ground connection to that lug.
