Hi ALL.
I'm new to this forum. May be I'll ask a stupid question and may be this was disscussed earlier but I didn't find...
So... Does anyone have the schematic of some trainwreck amp modded to 5 watts rms? I understand that the sound would be not so cool as it is in original amps but i want to make the amp for home and I can't go loud cause I have a child...
Thanks
5W is seriously loud for playing at home. It's enough to upset the neighbours during the day, let alone a child sleeping.
You want to be in the sub-1W territory for that kind of level, so you need a very, very low watt Wreck build, or a regular Wreck with an attenuator.
As an example to get my Express down to a level where I can play at night without disturbing anyone sleeping in an adjacent room I have my Faustine Phantom on what I measured at -50dB attenuation (where it actually still sounds good as an aside).
A 5W Express would be 8.5dB quieter than a 35W Express, so you'd still be looking at -41dB of attenuation to get it down to whisper levels.
I have a copy of valco gretch 5150 with 5 watt power and it is not to loud for me and my neigbours And I made 15 watts amp with my custom schematic - t 's really too loud...
May be I asked my question in a wrong way...
May be someone made trainwrech with one output tube like 6v6 or el84 and have schematic that really sounds like it should be.
I think it is possible to make preamp stage from Trainwreck Expree and something ;like fender champ in the output. The only question to me - is to get the right trainwreck sound.
Pop over to AX84.com. There's a project there called "4-4-0", which is a low wattage wreak. Uses 6SN7 for output tube, about 1 to 2 watts... http://www.ax84.com/4-4-0.html
If you go the tag trainwreck files - express there is a amp called the "derailment" and is a express preamp with a el84 pa. You could use other tubes 12bz7 for on the cheap. A Jones design and might not be too hard to tame. 5 loud watts.
Sorry on the bad info on the last post but here it is Trainwreck files - Stickey - Schematics Layouts - Omar post - Derailment 2 tube SE wreck. I really like that 20watt SE schematic above I bet it has some juicey harmonics. Anyone build one?

There's less than 5dB of difference between a 5W amp and a 15W amp.
If you can manage the 5W amp at home you might as well build a proper Express and an Airbrake or something to knock off the 8dB that will bring it down to 5W.
At least that way it will still feel like the Express.
