How do you guys mount filter caps in these TW builds where the filter caps are grouped together double decker style?
thanks,
rob

Silicon
Re: TW Filter capacitor mounting
Hot melt glue worked for me.
Re: TW Filter capacitor mounting
I silicon three caps together and let dry. Repeat for next three caps.
Then I silicon the bottom section in and let dry followed by the top section this way they are not moving all over the place on you. Best not to be in a hurry. Always have more then one amp project going on at the same time.

Re: TW Filter capacitor mounting
I did something weird with my Rocket build. I ended up using two 50 uF Atoms instead of three 40 uF Atoms and so the cap stack ended up being 3 on top of 2. Plus the 50uF Atoms are larger in diameter so I had to offset the three caps a bit. I started by gluing two of the smaller caps onto one of the 50 uF guys and the slowly built the stack until I had all 5 caps attached. I had to space them kinda weirdly so that the huge 50 uF guys didn't push the small guys above the lip of the chassis. I BARELY made it too and it looks goofy, but it's sturdy enough and the amp sounds great.

Re: TW Filter capacitor mounting
I use a totally different scheme with radial caps gooped to the chassis and then PTP the droping string, bleeder, etc. It works quite well and is easier to replace a cap if one dies.

Hmm, that sounds interesting Darin radial caps up like that.
A garolite/other material plate drilled to slide over the caps to act as support bolted down would really beef that up but probably over kill.

I have done what you describe in a few amps. You can get some great caps for a great price if you look at the alternatives to axials. Those get getting more rare that I'd like to see.M Fowler wrote:Hmm, that sounds interesting Darin radial caps up like that.
