I will send a couple of the pictures to Alexander and see what he says.

Gary did you get an answer back from Alexander regarding this amp?

The clean sounds like an ultraphonix, the overdrive side like classic Lindley maybe more harmonic than I've heard... I'm still exploring its possibilities, every setting seems to bring out more nuance and discovery, I'm sure in the coming weeks I'll figure out how to harness its capabilities... one moment it sounds an 80's Overdrive Special, the next like an angry 70's ODS ready to explode..... loud, crazy little amp! The biggest surprise though, is the Reverb! Never, ever heard reverb respond like this...

Could you Put some OD clips up on Youtube? It would be much appreciated.

Did anyone come up with a circuit diagram from the photos?

Just curious to see what others saw?

I never saw the clips when they were up, unfortunately, and I've not seen any more info other than the pictures and they are not real telling but I recently picked up a Bandmaster Reverb with a similar layout and started experimenting on it to see what I can come up with on my own. I started the experiment by hooking V1 to V2 as gain stages since I think that is what is going on via the relay and I got some interesting results depending on how I dial it in with all the knobs functional. Plug into the normal jack and you get the chained version, plug into the Vibrato jack and you get the stock circuit. I also changed the plate resistors on V1 to 220/150 instead of 100/100 to be like #183 (to increase gain a little) and made the OD entrance into V2 the same as a 3rd gen. I plan to work heavily on V2 to create a new OD channel that is switchable. Instead of chasing the ghost on this, I'm just going to follow some intuition and probably lean toward a 124 circuit for the overdrive. I don't know what I'll come up with but it is a fun project nonetheless.

Some facts on the Hotel Hog:

The relay is for Ftsw'able Pre amp boost, the hotel hog is not a cascading design.

Good to know, thanks! I won't distract from this thread any more with what I am trying to do with my BMR but I do have a plan and it will be cascading, channel switchable, and involve a boost.

In this old thread some modified Fender amps are referred to as specimens of the model that Alexander sometimes did call the Hotel Hog or the Hotel Model. Is there really any kind of first hand information that Alexander did call one of these Fender amps discussed in this old thread "Hotel Hog?"

Cheers,

I worked on one of these about 18 years ago installed in a SF Deluxe Reverb. Usually when I see something cool I'll draw up a schematic of it for future reference. I remember being underwhelmed at thte time so I didnt bother...wish I had for historical purposes...

What I do remember is the Hog mod used the normal channel tube to add the boost which disabled the tone stack of that channel.

There were a resistor/cap networks covered in shrink tubing going to V2 pin 7 (220k/500pF?)

The rest was already mentioned the relay and 12V PS added...

The owner was present during my inspection or I would have done a bit more investigating but I remember thinking the stuff I was doing at the time was as good or better than this, which means that most of the guys on this forum have built stuff beyond the Hotel Hog already....

This amp has the norm channel going straight to the PI stage, check out the green wire that spirals with the white power supply wire.

It is a different amp from the one you worked on.

If I recall correctly, the amp I worked on had a relay board mounted in that bare spot between the vibrato and normal channel tone stacks...

That picture doesn't look like the amp I worked on but the owner said it was the Hotel Hog modification... Had the same ol story about having to wait an extremely long time to get the amp back from HAD... etc... etc...

I dare say the Hotel Hog mod depends on what you want. Interesting about story of the long wait on service. I wonder if the wait was longer than specified in the contract?

I think what is lacking is the standard penalty cause in most contracts.

I remember HAD trying to talk me into ordering one of these, built from scratch back in the 80's. Interesting to see one in some form.
