Portland Dumble-fest - Mar 20, 2011!

Post by greiswig »

Hi,

I know there are a few of you on this list who live near me: Shad, Tom, Chris... I've always wanted to get together with other Dumble enthusiasts and compare builds, get a chance to audition speakers, and so forth.

I don't have a great venue in mind or anything yet, but I'm just trying to gauge how much interest there might be in getting you and your amp(s) and cabs together in one place to test tone, explore the fabled PI trimmer setting, have ah-hah moments about flipping notes:wink:, etc. Maybe some time in January? I might be able to get our church to let us use their room, which is BIG, so we could open things up a bit.

I'd be happy to come.

I just need to build a head cab for the new amp or find one for a good price.

Why? Heck, just perch it on a piece of plywood for the time being if it comes to it! I don't expect we'll be into the visual aesthetic of it, only the auditory.

Thanks for the reply!

I'd love to do it but I live just outside Vancouver (BC not WA) so I think there is no way I could get my amps and cabs across the border and back.

It's been awhile since I crossed, but I did a gig up in Victoria a couple of years ago and hauled gear up there and back. Wasn't too difficult. It would be a shame to lose out on our Northern brothers, but I also realize it's a bit of a haul for you.

greiswig, what kind of paperwork is involved? I would imagine you have to get some kind of paper before you cross?

I didn't need anything other than my passport. I explained to them that I was a performing musician, they opened up a couple of cases and looked things over, and waved me through. Same on the way back. I crossed over at Port Angeles, though, if it makes a difference.

I know there are VERY capable builders and players up in Canada...I'd hate to miss out on your participation. So if there's anything anybody can add to help David and others out, it'd be great!

Thanx greiswig, I will check out US and Canada Customs websites, see what they have to say.

I don't play worth a s**t but some players who have played my stuff like it.

Portland OR get together

Post by mikeram »

I would love to get together and hear some local Dumble clones. I don't have one myself but am about to build one and would love to hear what different models sound like. I have a friend with a Dumble clone and I know he would like to get together also. I have a gig on the 18th of Jan but am free the rest of the month.

Very cool, Shad! I was sure hoping so. One big step closer to critical mass.

Shad's the guy who built my amp for me initially: I bought the D'Lite kit, but I'd never built an amp, and chickened out. Shad, you would not recognize the build now...especially the workmanship! Sorry I screwed up your neatness, but it's been a great ride with a lot of learning.

Tom,

I have a Ceriatone cab that you can have for free if you want it. You would need to pay shipping from NJ.

Last time I crossed the border with a band( 35 years ago), going back to the US from Cananda, we only made it across smoothly 'cause our drummer was banging one of the hoser customs girls. Going into Canada was a drag. We had to wait for a about three hours in the middle of the night in the middle of nowhere in the freezing cold with no Molsons. They liked my Traynor amp.
