Hi Folks-
Thought some of you Wreck heads might like to hear the Tonic Vapour which is an Express based circuit with this one in particular having EL34s in it.
I met Darin at the 2009 LA Amp Show and it was my first experience with playing an Express style circuit and I was immediately taken with the abilities of the amp and the simple nature of the tone stack.
about 6 months later I got a chance to play a real Rocket as well as some other clones and I circled back with Darin. I have been thoroughly impressed with how Darin approaches these builds- we went through each part of the circuit from transformers to sockets to tubes and this vs. that.
Then we discussed wood selection for the cabinet. I'll have to defer to him for what he used but it looks great.
Any- it's a super fun amp and while I am not a Wreck aficionado I will say that this thing sounds outstanding and some of my more Trainwreck astute pals were wildly impressed and a bit bummed on their own clones based on what we were getting from my Vapour.
This clip was done in a room that has wood floors (little beach house) and is great and ambient for live recording. I did the recording here to give a similar set up to Glenn K's living room recordings that we all know and love.
The gear used here was a Danny Gatton Telecaster with Barden pickups
a 4X12 Scumback slant cab with 65 watt M75 scumback speakers. Guitar is going straight in to the amp.
The Volume was around 10:00
Bright switch OFF
Presence and the rest of the tone stack was @ noon.
Note- there is a slight hum which is due to the shit power and light that is on that same circuit so...This is an old Beach House that I have yet to address the power.
Anyway-
here it is
Thanks again to Darin from Tonic who actually personally delivered this thing to make sure I was happy with the amp. He also brought some insane Fane speakers which I ended up buying some Medusas, AXAs and one of the Studio 12Ls. The Studio 12 has since replaced my EV12L for my D amps and the Medusas work with pretty much anything.
Hope you dig it. Sure is fun to play.
Teddy

Re: Tonic Vapour clip...
Really nice, I like the way that you phrase.
Re: Tonic Vapour clip...
Nice!
About the Fane Studio 12L, the spec's say 5.2 ohm impedance but I swear the picture of the speaker shows 15 ohm.
It only available in 5.2 ohm?
I would need two 15 ohm.

Ted, that sounds great! Congratulations.
Wife: How many amps do you need?
Me: Just one more...

Thanks guys-
Tom- I'll see what the rating is on mine. Pretty sure it's an 8 ohm speaker. For my 90s ODS HRM it is just great. Bummed I didn't discover one sooner.
I need to do some more clips with the Vapour with my LP and Strat.
