My friend Kevin is going to look at the tremelo today while I'm in the recording studio. Once we get the tremelo 100% I'll have him post the corrected schematic on his site. Phil

Wow Phil, from reading the guys page ,its pretty wild. Maybe he needs to look at the circuits in some of the Wrecks and see where they were borrowed from before he makes the statements..
And then to say all that, and then say that he used the Ampeg tremolo,i guess with some of his own tweaks ..
Maybe i'm missing something.. there is alot more on his site..
Lets start with an amp that my friend Phil is building. He is working from a gray area I am not sure what to think of, the internet where guys copy the amps they like to save money and learn a skill. While when they do this with the likes of Fender, Marshall, Vox and other now bloated corporations that rival GM or Ford in size, it is not so bad. [In fact, a few of you may get to the realisations I and a notable few others have, that Fender has forgotten the magic Bob Walker designed into their best; and that Marshall reissues are even now as poorly laid out as the originals, and remain unstable enough that guys like me have to order new output transformers and redo the wiring harnesses in the expensive hand wired amps that oscillate when turned up... In this case, copy away, and good luck discovering what separates the men from the boys.]

When you knock off copies of those who have done the work, walked the walk, and learned the ins and outs the hard way, as I have- this sucks. Even though, often as not, your copies wont be built with the intuition that a Ken Fischer has, say. And they will hum, or get squirrely at volume. Sure, the small name amps cost a lot; how many years did it take the builders to get where they got? Your copies do not help to cover their blood, sweat, nor tear$. Its just ripping them off. We all can justify this, but those are just excuses. Well, I will continue this one day on my Blogs page; lets get back to the amps.

I haven't seen the site but that quote is self-righteous nonsense. Every popular amp (including trainwreck and *umble) were derived at least somewhat from other designs. It goes all the way back to the western electric circuits. It's good and healthy for people to be interested enough to learn about how amps work and build their own and make their own tweaks. It helps generate & sustain enthusiasm for tube amps in general and that's always good for the industry as a whole. AFAIC, as long as you are building amps for your own personal use and not cloning someone's ideas to sell as your own, there should be no worries about ethical dilemmas.

I figured there would be some interesting dialog after a few people checked out his site. I think he had some designs ripped of by chandler years ago and wasn't compensated. I think a lot of that stuff was added to his site when I told him I was going to post a link to it. Any way he always amazes me with the stuff he comes up with, and he has always fixed stuff for players for really cheap. It would be pretty cool to get alook at the real trem-rocket and see if the trem was ampeg based. Phil

He wrote this
, so i just assume he borrowed from one or the other..then used his gizmo.
Well, Whad' ya know? It was the Fender style [shunt form] LDR we tried to use in an Ampeg series form tremolo.
and he has always fixed stuff for players for really cheap
Me too.. for years, and many others here too..lol The Ampeg gemini II ? has one of the wildest trems i have heard.
I guess he just don't know us very well,we have give alot in return. And like some of the stuff hes doing, it might just be a stepping stone to something of your own twist thrown into it.

Well ya never know maybe Ken designed that trem circuit for Ampeg when he worked there. That would be funny if Kevin had ripped off one of Ken's trem designs to go into one of Ken's designs

I think my brother might have took down the site that was hosting the clips. I haven't used that amp in a while. I fired it up a couple of months ago to test some speakers out and it was making a noise when I hit certain notes. I have so many projects that are a priority right now I'm not sure when I'll get a chance to get it sorted out. Phil

Lots of dead links and dead photo files on that site.
I assume this guy likes to pontificate more than show his work.

The internet is full of guys like this.

I am the only one doing it right in the whole world!
Send me $1000 to show you.

He tried to show Marshall how to do it right....lol
Tom

Don't let that smoke out!
