Newb ? which circuit

Hello all. Any advice on which circuit would be best for jamband/rock style of music? I want an amp that feedbacks and blooms easily with lots of gain on tap. Want to avoid graininess so I think I am looking for a modern, smoother tone. I think I am looking for an HRM circuit but what tone stack? Thanks for any help you can offer.

I think Tom is right, for what you are looking for. Check out the Dumble files, it's in there. If you know how to do it you can tailor the HRM tonestack how you want it.

Most of the posts in this thread give some info about the kind of amp you hear, too.

If you should find some clips of amps which you suppose could perhaps do the job for you, you could ask here, which circuits these amps have that you think you perhaps would like. In case you are in doubt concerning some of these clips because many are low-fi YouTube clips, you could perhaps find better quality versions on DVD or CD or you could perhaps download some HQ mp3 versions to make your decision a still more promising one.

After you've made up your mind concerning the kind of Dumble amp that you think will most probably do what you ask for, people here will help you where to find all the information (schematics, layouts, where to buy parts etc.) you need to build a clone of this Dumble amp.

I would suggest checking out Steve Kimock. His main amp is a early 80's non-hrm Dumble ODS(his Two-Rocks are based on this amp also). Most jamband guitar players like these type of circuits because they feedback easily.

I could always get tight crunch and singing sustain with such a 4th generation "classic" ODS amp. Here is the layout of this kind of ODS circuit:

Ahhh! Well then, that gives you some hope of finding the right circuit, since JH is a Fuchs guy & Andy Fuchs just happens to be a contributor here.

Hopefully Andy will comment on the circuit Jimmy uses......

perhaps you have some kind of misunderstanding:

In these YouTube clips Doug Doppler demonstrates Henry Kaiser's 4th generation "classic" ODS 100W. And #124 has originally been built as a such a "classic" amp, too (just like all the 4th generation ODS amps - like RF's #102 as another famous example), but was later modified with a "skyline" circuit (just like RF's #102 as another famous example of an ODS that has originally built as a "classic" and was later updated to "skyline" specs).

So the circuit of Henry Kaiser's amp - demonstrated by Doug Doppler in these clips - is in general the same circuit as the circuit of #124 before the skyline update. And the original "classic" circuit of #124 before the skyline update is shown in this layout:

Yes but how do you know what the interior of that amp is?

Sure you can tell the period by the front panel but how do you know if that amp has been updated or not or what it's current circuit is?

Around 3:30 in this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SNSAj6AzWGo Doug Doppler demonstrates the function of the "deep switch" and you hear that this is still a deep switch and not a mid-switch that is always a part of all the later tone stack updates. You don't find a Bluesmaster or Skyline ODS amp (original or updated) that still has a "deep switch".

And the overall tone of this 4th generation ODS is very similar to the overall tone of the four original transition generation and 4th generation "classic" ODS amps I am familiar with.

Because of all this I think that Henry Kaiser's amp that is demonstarted in these Doug Doppler clips still has the "classic" specs, just as originally built.
