anyone tried the Eminence Reignmaker?
With this Flux Density Modulation (FDM) Technology? On the surface, a speaker with a built in attenuator sounds like a great thing. Just wondering if anyone here (opinions I trust) has taken these for a test drive?

Re: anyone tried the Eminence Reignmaker?
I have yet to try them but from an audio engineer / tech's point of view. When they first came out with line array speakers with built in power amps the concern was. OK amps fail I keep at least a pair as spares while I tour, and the same in studio. The problem being you have to send in both pieces and not just one. shipping cost, reflying the speaker stacks, etc = hastle...
It's kind of a neat gimmic to have a build in attenuator on the speaker, but at the same time why? if you really use it hard, that heat has to go some where and the voice coil will probably be the first to go. If they just came out give them 5 years to get the bugs out, or plan on using the warranty. also a failure resulting in the wrong or no ohm load can ultimately take out the amplifier.

yep, I agree 100%. All that heat has to go somewhere...and I'm not so sure that in/around the voice coil would be where i would want it.

Thank you for the link.
Two more issues I noticed;
1.) you are limited to the patriot series, hope you like the speaker's tone to start with.
2.) It's pretty useless in a closed back configuration, since you have to adjust from the rear.
Next question do the positions of attenuation lock into place? What happens during travel or vibration.. does it shift?

Not sure that it's generating that much heat. Doesn't that depend on how it works? A resistive load (L-Pad, etc.) would, but it almost sounds like they're just varying the strength of the magnetic field by changing the magnet geometry. If that's true, then the heat limit is basically the voice coil, isn't it?KellyBass wrote:yep, I agree 100%. I loved that one comment about "how they overcome the issue of Trilithium generation on the shell of the Flux Capacitor?"
