Trem-Rocket

Post by philmanatee »

My friend Kevin[Mr. Science] the guy who designed the EH english muffin drew this circuit and layout for me. It's based on the Mark Abbott schematic in the files section. It's my second amp, first was Francesca clone. This thing sounds great, I'm still tweaking the trem but it's almost there. I'll post cabinet pic's after I'm done tweaking, and clips will be after this weekend. Phil

It's similar to an ac-30 but ballsier. In the next few days I'll compare it side by side with my vintage ac-30. Do you need the tremelo? I wouldn't recommend building it with the tremelo unless you use amp tremelo, I'm still tweaking that part of the circuit and it takes up a lot of real estate. You might want to look at some of the other rockets people have built to establish your layout. Mine was dictated by the extra long preamp board. Phil

Keith, I like your idea of using both the express and rocket at once. Phil

Phil, Great job. I bet you had some killer tone at practice!

Edit: I must admit that I am very curious how the trem is working!

What EL84's are you using Sovtec?

I was only going to play a couple songs and play the express the rest of the night, but I couldn't stop playing the rocket! :D I'm using sovteks just because the were the first thing I found to test it with. I've got some tung-sol and GE 7189's I want to try in it and some used mullard el-84's that should really sound good. I still have a little tick in the trem, but it's usable for live gigs. Phil

I don't have any way to post schematics or layouts. When everything is 100% in the amp I'll try to get my friend to post it on his website. Phil
