i have a pair of dynaudio bm5a's that i like but one is experiencing issues. the high speaker (tweeter) keeps cutting out sporadically. at first it was just for a second or two and then would come back. now its mostly off and will only come on for a second or two when you turn the speaker on and off again. the problem is, these things aren't worth a ton of money used, so there is no point in sending it in to dynaudio. especially since they have a flat tech fee of something like $170 plus parts. id much rather just buy a used on for $300 if its going to cost over $200 to get it fixed.
anyone know anything about these amps that may be able to help? anyone in NJ willing to fix it? id rather pay someone local and not have to ship it.

So this is a powered speaker right?
Have you opened it up and looked at the tweeter wiring?
Does it use a passive crossover or an electronic (active) one?
Could be something as simple as a bad tweeter or crossover component to a cold solder joint from the factory that is acting up now.

yes its a powered speaker. i've tested the cabling and tried to reflow solder on a couple of points that some people suggested.

Had a similar problem with a JBL powered PA speaker. The fix was simple after much toil. The fix was to disconnect, clean, and re-seat all the connectors on the boards. There was one kind of loose connector that needed tensioning too. If that doesn't do it, find a tech.
Eardrums!!! We don't need no stinkin' eardrums!
Re: dynaudio bm5a problem. tech in NJ?
It looks like they are just using a simple capacitor crossover there with the ceramic cap.
So possibilities are amp, crossover, connectors, the tweeter itself.

I have a bm5a that has the same problem.
I have found that if I open it and unplug/plug all the printed circuits connectors, the tweeter comes back to life.
Lately, I cleaned the connectors with contact cleaner and I haven't had any tweeter drop-outs since ... crossing my fingers.
Hope this will help you.
