Maybe this is old hat and everyone's seen it, and maybe it's someone here, but I thought I'd post the link I came across. Makes my builds look like the were made by an 8 year old, and all those big tubes scare me.

That is just crazy.
I would love to see a schem for it.

Bring your frying pan. You can play bass and cook your breakfast all at one time. Did you see the size of those trannies?
Re: Stumbled across this, one hell of a Homebrew
I was surprised how close all the tubes were together and the amount of clearance between them and the top of the cab.
He does have two fans though.

125W/500W switch? That's a freaking powerful amp! Plenty of features.

Looks like a 'wreck waiting to happen !
I would also make a nice heater for the winter!

what a pain in the ass. I'd hate to work on it if something broke, it looks like you have to pull the boards out, and probably unsolder wires to do so.
I'm only guessing but wouldn't the circuit fit on a couple turret boards?
I didn't see any solid state IC so I'm at a loss why it would be built on a PCB.
500W
seriously.... almost double the wattage of an SVT. I have a feeling if it met commercial production it would fall the same fate as the Marshall Major. Due to how deep the customer would need to dig to retube that beast!
Very cool though thank you for sharing!

How'd you like to foot the bill for a re-tube?
All NOS of course!

500W in a bass amp is on the low side for a pro bass player these days. All-tube is the drawing card just like the SVT.
If I were a pro bass player I would use an SVT w/2-8x10 cabs on each side of the stage and die happy! (Assumes a pretty big stage, I know).

Funny, my first thought too was how much to re-tube that sucker?
What a beast that is, which is exactly why we should applaud him.

I was thinking about the electric bill. I even turn off my soldering iron when I get up to make a cup of tea. When this amp and the ac are running at the same time you can probably get dizzy watching the electric meter go round.paulster wrote:Funny, my first thought too was how much to re-tube that sucker?
Even if it goes up in a giant fireball and blacks out an entire neighborhood you still have to compliment the guy on the meticulous detailed complex work. Wonder what he does to relax? What a beast that is, which is exactly why we should applaud him.

Plays bass in Central Park I imagine, just to piss off the squirrels.

Than the soldering iron or the 500W amp?Allynmey wrote:A Hair dryer uses twice the current.
I wouldn't care to leave a hair drier on all day that's for sure. I'm in NYC considering the size of my place my electric is simply unreasonable. I think it's the Chinese fridge! I'm thinking of water cooling the compressor, I don't pay for water
