A couple of weeks ago I was driving home and My Sharona came on the radio. I was thinking about how dorky the song was - or at least I was when it was a hit. I was reaching to change the station when the guitar solo started. I forgot just how great a solo it was!!

One I've been admiring lately is Don't Change Horses by Tower of Power. It is not a hair raiser in the vein of Comfortably Numb, but it has some incredibly slippery licks that hint at jazz while staying within the blues realm. I happen to love that style.

Also, Albert King's - I've Got the Blues. Damn that's sweet!

For sure, Starship Trooper is awesome and the amongst the very best in Old School Progressive Rock. Chris Squire deserves high marks for that solo (and his playing in general).

+++ on Rory Galagher - had the privelege of seeing him play live.
He walked on and said "I hope you're in the mood for some blues"
Kinda quiet, un-assuming. Didn't act like the star headliner.
Then held the audience in his grip for 2 hours...
Some of the best gut wrenching blues I've ever heard.

I loved Rory Gallagher.

Messin' with the Kid was my introduction to Rory and the solos in that song really hit home.
Really raw!

Reportedly, his sweat was so acidic that the strings were shot after one gig and the finish on the guitar was totally eaten away because of it.

Sad day when he died due to complications after a liver transplant.
