First let me say that I am in awe of the knowledge here.... and Wow... I have a lot to learn...

I am building my 2nd 5e7 clone and need to get the PT and OT.. I have decided on a set of Heyboer's this time.. Can you buy direct from them or only a distributor?? If I can order direct are there any upgrades that can be specified? The only thing I know I want is 2,4,8 secondary's ....

You can order direct and they will wind just about any specs that you require and are willing to pay for. The lead times are about two weeks on PT/OT and slightly less for chokes.

Since I really don't understand this stuff very well.. What would one look for other than stock spec wise as an improvement????

That depends on what you want in tone! Mo' bass, mo' extended clean, mo' headroom......?

A stock 5e7 OT probably has just one secondary tap (8 ohms maybe?). If younger so inclined to ask for a custom version, you might ask for 4,8, and 16 just to give you added flexibility.

They are a very good value price wise.

Just bought the set from Triode.. They look like a good deal.. seem well built according to the info on their site... I should get the set next week..

The Magnetic Components set you are referencing are not correct for a 5E7 build.

The 5E7 OT is 6K and I have measured some that were 5.1k or there about. Mojo sells an accurate reproduction with 4 and 8 ohm taps.

Also the choke you reference is a blackface style choke rated at 90ma intended to be installed in the screen node. The choke for the 5E7 is a 5-8 henry swinging choke rated at 200ma installed in a pi filter before the plate HT node.

I use a 798 style PT with dual HT taps with a DPDT switch so I can go between 6V6 and 6L6 tubes with out basing hassles.

You will end up with an amp that does not sound anything like a real tweed 5F4/5E7/5E6 using the referenced transformer set . Just MHO.

The Mojo OT is made by Heyboer.

It won't be a 100% replica but can still be a great sounding tweedy clone.

Is there any good online reference (or offline, failing that) for specs for transformers for tweed Fenders? I've seen a few of these sort of things that undercut the appearance that this stuff is generally available info.

Two places I look for reference are AES (tubesandmore.com) and Triode Store. Triode stocks Magnetic Components who build accurate XFRM reproductions. AES stocks Hammond Fender replacements which are typically the right value or close for the stated amp models and the PT are usually overrated a bit (can be good or bad depending on what you want). Hammond likes to use as few transformer models possible to cover most of the Fender models so I don't know how accurate these truly are spec-wise, but the Triode Store transformers are accurate in value to what the originals were.
