Jensen CR12 speakers

Post by M Fowler »

I just got off the phone with a guy that my sister-in-law fixed his car radio and she said call me about amplifiers.

He has an old Cordovox Accordian amp and tone generator he wanted to sell. It has a pair of Jensen CR12 speakers which I will have to test before I give the $150 price tag.

But what you do guys thing?

This isn't one of those accordion amps that has a separate tube for each individual note, is it?

Fingers crossed they aren't all 12AU7's....

It is and there are only four 12ax7 per the tube chart the rest I never heard of 6X8 and such.

The amp is a pair of 7591. I want the two cabinets, two speakers and maybe the power supply. The rest is junk to me.

Yeah I knew what the 7591 were worth and the speakers must be of value so I can't see how $150 is too much but I wanted opinions.

It comes in two cabinets one is the tone generator and the other is the amp.

So reclaim two cabinets retro look to me, two Jensen speakers, two 7591 power tubes, power supply (working) and maybe some other things.

I like this shot here.
How long you figure it would take a person to wire that up?

You get what you pay for...

Were you planning on buying the speakers anyway? Were you going to spend 150 on them? If the answer is yes, and you know the speakers in this amp are in good working condition, then go for it. Don't let the other 'bonus' stuff sway you.

The tubes are a crapshoot - maybe a couple great RCA 12AX7's, or maybe a pair of worn out noisy Sylvanias. Same goes for the 7591's.

..yes, you could easily spend 150 on a good PT and OT alone, but that is for an OT and a PT of your choosing. For a project like this, you may find that you have to jump through a million hoops to get a good amp out of a random pair of salvaged transformers. Unknown current ratings, voltages and impedances could be God knows what, and if it's a laydown PT, you have to cut one of those big square holes.

Who even knows if the speakers are in good condition? What are you going to do with those cabinets?

Just my 2 cents. It would be a score at 50, but 150 and it's a lot of money for something that's walking the line between a treasure trove and a pile of junk, unless you had already budgeted that kind of money for some known good parts that are included.

Thanks guys thats the type of feed back I need.

The last organ I bought was not a deal after all and no it was not a good organ to keep. I love to play keyboard and if I run across a good one its going to be played not torn apart.

I will take a look at this accordian amp and listen to see if the speakers are any good.

I'd offer $75. This stuff isn't new by any stretch. Those old C12R's are nice speakers (I have a pair) but they aren't the mother lode. Then you've got some work to salvage whatever else that *might* be good.

Ask him, "Do you want to be done with this deal right now, no hassle, no weirdos coming to your door, no shipping hassles on eBay, etc.?"

I wouldn't hesitate to walk away.
