You could buy the whole AO 35 chassis off ebay for that with shipping.

The AO-35 OT is 8K so I used Ken Watt's Heyboer 18w Marshall set.

His PT is Verticle not the laydown type so that works out very well.

THe Ghia is a 2 x EL84 amp.

The schematic I have calls for an 8K output transformer.

No guys I already have the output trans. I seen matchless uses a 4k on the spit fire and other 2xel84 amps. Would they be any adavantages to using the bigger ot on the ao35. It will prolly be coverted to a Ghia or mazerati. Would the of of the ao handle 4 el84s ?

I probably wouldn't risk it.
From what I was told, Hammond used minimum design requirements to make his stuff work well, but he did not go overboard on the specs.

So I would not risk doubling the tube load on the OT.

Depending which tubes you want to run, you could find a generic Fender OT that would work well for less than half of that transformer you linked to.

Do what I did. I ordered a couple spit OTs from Transformer Design and supply. Best money ever spent on tone. I have a couple of AO-35 OTs available too. My ao-35 with stock PT and tubes even a 5Y3 sounds fantastic with that OT. Jury is still out on the choke vs resistor in the PS but the amp sounds like a million dollars. Not much AO-35 left in it though. Just the chassis, PT, tubes sockets and cap can. My one mod is a switch for parallel vs. single triode in the preamp. I lean toward the single triode for sparkle and parallel for a bit of extra grunt.

i am going to make the ao-35 to a ghia or spitfire. just wanted to use the output trans that i listed. i already own it so why not use it. so can it be done putting a 4k on 2 el84's instead of a 8k. would the be adavantage or disadavanges

Would you consider changing the speaker impedance to compensate for the different primary?

Dang, I really need to slow down and read the posts......
I missed where you already said you own it.

Hey, some of the best tone sometimes happens at weird mismatches.
You can always feel the transformer after a while to see if it's happy.

Two ways to get more power from an amp increase plate voltage and change the OT primary; however, I may be wrong but I think by you lowering the primary down to 4k is too much.

So it would be ok o try it. I will build it using the ao35 ot then swap it to he other ot to see if there's much of a difference.
