FET Board Options - Need Opinions
Hi all-
I'm working on a couple of options on a FET circuit board and wanted to get opinions from those of you who may be interested in them. Both options are the standard FET circuit and can easily be tweaked to you own particular needs. Both boards will drop in the CE chassis. The price point between the boards should only be around $3.00.
Option 1 is a fairly traditional looking board based on a couple of later amps. I could delete the silkscreen printing for the components and leave the bare solder mask (green) front for a traditional look. 3/32" eyelets can also be used for the B+, In & Out (same as the relay boards I released this week). All traces are on the back side of the board. Option 1 is 2" X 1.5".

Option 2 is the same circuit, but adds the option of installing a relay to switch the FET in & out. The relay is configured in a standard "true bypass" setup and grounds the input of the FET when the circuit is switched out. User could also install a small pot in the FET jack and have an external gain control. The board would not be as traditional looking since there would be double sided traces to accommodate the relay. Users that did not want the relay would add two small jumpers and have the exact board as option 1. Option 2 is 2.125" X 2.125".

Let me know if either one is something the community is interested in. Thanks.

Hey Jason
Both options would be cool, if I had to choose between one or the other I would choose the traditional.
If you supplied info, schematics on how to implement the switch it would be a help and a good selling point for those of us who are less technically savvy.
More importantly would be a set of ALL the boards for the CE chassis. PS, Bias, relay power matched to fit the drill holes. I'd buy that!!! and its looking like the CE chassis' are going to stay available so..........

I would like to see you do both. I would buy both types.

That's the plan. I hope to have all of the boards for the CE chassis available in the near future.dreric wrote: More importantly would be a set of ALL the boards for the CE chassis. Unfortunately I need to keep it limited to one FET board type if I'm going to produce the other boards. I trying not to have too much invested in the various boards since it could be awhile before I recoup my initial costs.txbluesboy wrote: I would like to see you do both. I would buy both types.
I'm fine with just the traditional layout as I'll mount one of the relay boards next to it to switch it in & out. I don't mind drilling extra holes in the chassis, but wanted to get an idea of what the majority of other builders would want.
Re: FET Board Options - Need Opinions
I don't mind drilling extra holes for mods. However, I'd like to start with a board set that uses the holes that are already there. The boards that the CE chassis accommodates are not available, hence my excitement over your project.I'm fine with just the traditional layout as I'll mount one of the relay boards next to it to switch it in & out. Traditional for me.

Re: FET Board Options - Need Opinions
I'd prefer the relay version but I am also interested in the standard version.
I had thought that switching between normal and FET inputs would cause a bang in the speaker. Is that not the case?

Standard for me
I just use a AB box to switch inputs.

Re: FET Board Options - Need Opinions
That would great if you did sell the complete board set in the future, I would really appreciate that.I hope to have all of the boards for the CE chassis available in the near future.
Thanks for all your hard work.

Re: FET Board Options - Need Opinions
I have two CE chassis to fill but I also started on a custom build for four 6V6 as well so both versions could be used for me.

Nice Mark.
Have you used Edcor transformers before?
In looking at there specs, none of their OT's are 2K impedance.
They have 1.7K and 2.5K.
Don't 6L6 quads like to see around 2.1K?

Re: FET Board Options - Need Opinions
I have used many Edcor trannies yes and the ones in the picture were custom order by me and yes they do have a 2K or 2k1. I also had a custom 3k3 made for the Express 80 build.
The trouble is you need to email Phyllis and ask for what you want they may have a number already not shown on the website and then Brian gives you an estimate that Phyllis emails back to you.
It's just like the chokes not shown on their website. I had told Wesley Kuhnley (Resonant Amps) about the chokes rjguitars stocks and he was surprized as he did not know Edcor had chokes.
