dialing in power string resistors

Post by andrew »

Hi, Is it safe to use a pot to find the voltages I need for each node in the power string by using a pot? I would then replace the pot with the proper resistor. I have a 1M 2watt PEC. Thanks for any help.

yeah sure. 1/2W 20k pot is fine in most cases, but why bother? Its just as easy to swap around (or tack in parallel) a bunch of 1/2W resistors to get an approximate mojo. Little tweaks in supply resistances don't make for much audible difference - it is halving or doubling resistances that (if anything) is more likely to change things in a noticeable way. So why not just grab a bunch of 22k resistors and built the supply with those in it and then start tacking ones in parallel here and there.
