Have you or anybody else used an HP 8903B? That's what I'm picking up from Austin once I get down there. I may even write a Labview style program to control it via GPIB and help me get nice graphs for the computer.

Hp 8903B looks like a very nice distortion / noise meter.
•Measures distortion, SINAD, signal to noise, True RMS Volts, DC Volts and frequency.

Yeah it can do THD, SINAD, spectral analysis, network analysis and anything else I would ever need. I'm pretty stoked about it.

Right on!

I'm a little confused about how you can view some of the feautres? I'm guessing it hooks up to additional modules or scope / computer program?

So I have a real issue with the "new" Trainwrecks. I have asked 2 times for a Songwriter 30 and I get the response "I have access to them however, I am not authorized to produce them at this time.". I thought there was only one of them ever made. Also how is Trainwreck not allowed to make a new SW30? What company would have said permission? Is this guy really that afraid that gutshots will get out?

It's probably what the family says goes. Since that was Ken's amp, I doubt they want it getting copied and reproduced by the masses. If we figure out what he did in the amp, it's value could go down considerably :D.

I can't help but think this is the end of the Trainwreck's.

I'm sure JM / the estate will at some point release the songwriter 30, the estamate has already proved time and time again respecting Ken is not the mode of operation. It's cashing in on profit. I'd go as far to say that JM doesn't have access to the Songwriter 30 or the correct parts to build it and it's not the circuit he is not allowed to clone he is probably not a loud to buy additional parts until the current stock is used up. I've tried to see the bright side of this as an amp collector but this what I keep coming up with...

1.- ON the bright side the original KF amps will go up as the market is filled with want to be.
2.- The flooding of authorized cloner amps will lower the value of the amps they are based off of. i.e. 300 francesca.. francesca's value drops.
3.- Trainwreck sold out authorising clones as valid - the originals are not special -

I'm curious to see the used price of a new ReIssue. If it follows current trend. When you can purchase a new amp for $5000 and amps are still in production no matter how long the wait time that amp will never be worth $5000 again. most amps drop 30-55% the moment they are owned. If JM and Trainwreck have a falling out, it could prove profitable, or even more detrimental if they replace him with just another, "his claim to fame is he is building Trainwrecks now" guy.

I'm curious to see the guts of a new wreck but it's not that exciting honestly, it's just a clone of another amp. I like seeing forum build pics because those are exciting accomplishments, But if I was to purchase one of JM's builds and it sucked for $5000 I'd bitch so loud, Trainwreck wouldn't exsist, so you have to expect they have some quality control...

give it time I'm sure you will be able to order a songwriter 30 clone, a dirty little monster clone, and any other standardized clone model.

When is the Dirty Little Mary (DLM) coming out? Hoagy had built some but it never went into production due to cost.

I'm positive you'll never see the Songwriter 30 officially cloned. The DLM has been made by several guys, but the right OT is essential. It's not a real versatile amp anyway, just a lead/rock amp. If you bought a 5K reissue from JM and didn't like it you'd get your money back....same as with Ken's policy. The family isn't getting rich off this project... they are protecting the trademark by making amps.JM's amps are top notch construction, and while there may be clones that sound as good, I think the official TW reissues will hold value and probably go up some...

MRscratch got his amp!

He loves it and that is all that matters as far as he and his amp goes.

After 34 pages I am glad the build up is over and he can enjoy it.

The family may not be getting rich off the sale of JM built wrecks BUT building them to protect the TM is pure BS. You could have done ANY number of things to protect the TM including building a few Airbrakes.
