just to let you guys know, i received the amp today. Its incredible. It sounds better then i hoped it would. i have not been able to really crank it for too long, but it just rips. I was not aware at the time that this was the wrong thread to post about the new JM amps. I just want you guys to know that the amp is really something, and as soon as i can, ill get clips going.
thanks.

TBH, I feel bad that Mrscratch got caught up in all of the crap in this thread. It sucks that there is even so much negativity involved with the new Trainwrecks. It's not my place to call anybody out for "abusing" KF's name, although I understand some of the others frustrations. I agree that a new thread for your amp is in order. I'd start that once you get clips and pics up (gut shot too :P).

I'm glad to hear the new amp sounds good! I'm curious myself to hear what the clips sound like. I think having more real Trainwreck clips to gauge our own builds against is invaluable and I wish others would see that as well. Hope you decide to stick around!

Steffen,

I am glad the amp arrived finally and that your enjoying the amp. :)

What speakers is your Z-best cab loaded with? Found any combination of cabs/speaker you like best with your new amp?

Welcome back. I hope you are enjoying the amp. A "virgin" thread would probably be more appropriate for the clips.

i havent had much time with it yet. The z best has a v-30 and a g12h-30 75hz in it.
in speaking with Jim at scumback . i think i will rip out the two speakers and replace them . i think with his M 75 65w and maybe a H55 65? i would like a combination of a nice Mid speaker like the 75 and a louder more bass heavy speaker like a 55hz model. ill get these in a 65w coil so they handle the amps i have .
God i need to get this amp into a studio and let het rip!

The choice of speakers for the Express is very subjective Jim should know what works well with the Wreck.

Do you have a 412 cab to try?

According to Weber's book "Tube amp talk for the guitarist and tech" where you can find the most trainwreck information written by Kenny himself and a lot of stories told by Ken's customers of real wrecks we know that Kenny was biased towards old celestions.
He designed the express to work with either 4x12 25 watt prerola celestions and 30 watt prerola celestions with bass cone 55hz.
That is why, when asked, he didn't want to reissue the old trainwreck amps with komet because he felt that those amps were designed using obsolete tubes and obsolete speakers.
Times have changed and we all have learned that the express could sound descent with the right 2x12 (not optimal) but good enough to play it. I'm sure Jim will suggest 2x12 with 2 65 watters.
I actually had been playing mine with an old 2x12 jcm800 with 2 65watters. Altough not ideal the 65 watter has a treble roll off that works fine with the express.

From what I understand speakers are very critical with this amp.
I would follow the guys advice from this forum and maybe check to see what Glen is running for speakers with his Express.

Glad you like the amp. It will bring years of enjoyment. :D

Curious have you done any modification to the JCM800 Cabinet?
You can greatly improve the sound and quality of the tone in those cabs by running calk or silicone paste along all the internal seems they were prone to leaking air which caused the speakers to behave at certain freq in a less then pleasant way. They also benefit from a solid center support brace to stiffen up the cabinet.

No, I haven't done anything to that cab. Actually I picked it up on craigslist for 60 with one of the celestions and I just bought an extra speaker (original) and rewired it.
It is funny that the other speaker I bought cost me 120 on ebay. Double for what I paid for the cab but it is still a steal. It sounds pretty good, also you can see the quality of Marshall cabs in the early 80's. This one is SUPER heavy. Good wood in those days!!
Anyway thanks for the info and I will check on what you said.
