Kalimba - New clip demoing both Ojai and Tag circuit
Just a little ditty playing on "Kalimba", a sample track in Windows 7! I loaded in Sonar 8.5 just to see if I had Sonar configured right. I was surprised that I liked the track. So, I left it there and did a little improvisation on it.
I used my Carruthers CSA into the Bludo Ojai, loop and cables. I only recorded a minute of solo. This morning I had a brain storm to record more using the Glaswerks Phat Momma EL34 amp (circuit from Tag's Dumble). So, I punched in a rode it out..... Seafood and all. I kind of liked the outside bits so I am posting. Still learning Sonar so pardon any mix issues. The Glaswerks has a 47pf bright cap on the master since I use it with my rack. This was a good size and actually recorded as good or better than no loop, no cap (in my testing).
http://scottlernermusic.com/2010/Kalimb ... tMomma.mp3
Amp times summarized as follows.
Bludo Ojai - 0-1:10
Glaswerks 183 circuit - 1:10 to outro
Cabinet was G12-65 Celestions. Multimiced with SM57 and GT Hardtop. A little 168ms delay and a little verb added in mix.
Hope you like!

They sound pretty close through my computer speakers. Good too.
Re: Kalimba - New clip demoing both Ojai and Tag circuit
Sounds like the Bludo has a brighter high end and "bloom". The feedback tendencies sound like an Express.

Sounds great Scott, but not like #183 to me. Some secrets still remain secrets. Maybe some intentional misleading going on at times online?
Re: Kalimba - New clip demoing both Ojai and Tag circuit
Maybe Tag. The only grey area is the size of the od1 cap. Shad says it is a .015 even though it looks like a .05. So, unless he lied, it is a .015. Also, the snubbers. I may prefer when I had 270pf in there. This is minutia though. I assure you that the amp sounds like 183. In fact, Brad posted some clips of it by mistake as the real Dumble. Fooled him.... Remember I have control clips of the real one.
Btw, you did not care for the real 183 clips either. So, maybe it just sounds and records differently for me. Or I set it way differently.

Diva or not? - Respect for Mr. D's work....)
Re: Kalimba - New clip demoing both Ojai and Tag circuit
No doubt, TKT.
So now that Tag is permanently banned at TGP, we have to tolerate him here?
Remember, he was booted off here before.....

but who else then could find out now wich are the wrong clips of those Mac Daddy has posted as being clips of #183? Who else knows tone? Or do you think this is not that important as perhaps "some secrets [should?] still remain secrets"? Or do you think Scott would spoil the fun of a "tone quiz" by just telling us?
Cheers and all the best,
Max

the OD1 cap does look a bit different than the CL2 cap in the pic I think. Although a .05 in OD1 makes for one hell of a Les Paul jr. tone!! On the snubbers I'm sure I've had some ceramic caps in the past marked 250 and it really was a 250, the last number wasn't the number of zero's.

Re: Kalimba - New clip demoing both Ojai and Tag circuit
AFAIR it is indeed a possible variant of a three digit capacitor code that 250 for an example is not = 25pF but = 250pF. But AFAIR ampdork posted that he took a measurement that confirmed 25pF:tubedogsmith wrote: On the snubbers I'm sure I've had some ceramic caps in the past marked 250 and it really was a 250, the last number wasn't the number of zero's.
"25pf/1KV snubber....that is not a typo that is what is printed on the caps (250K) and was measured."
But on the other hand I must admit that up to amdork's posts concerning #183 I have never heard of or seen in real life or on pictures such a low value for untouched snubbers in an original untouched Dumble ODS. And I have heard of schematics that proved to still have some "minor" faults even after the 5th doublecheck. We are humans.
Cheers,
Max

Also, both my cap meters will not measure the snubbers in circuit, even with tube removed. Did Shad unsolder a wire?

Re: Kalimba - New clip demoing both Ojai and Tag circuit
Great playing. The Ojai seems to want to leap into feedback a little more. Otherwise - and I've listened 3 times on 2 different computers - they sound *very* similar. Do they sound/feel the same when you're in the room with them?
Wife: How many amps do you need?
Me: Just one more...

Cap unsoldered.

Re: Kalimba - New clip demoing both Ojai and Tag circuit
Not sure how accurate measuring any cap in circuit is. The slightest bit of residual voltage or resistance messes up the meter's ability to get a good reading. With the tube pulled, and ANY voltage present you still have the cathode network to ground, the plate network to power supply (kinda counts as a ground), and it might sway the metering...just sayin'
