Orange Sprague Atoms?
I found a decent stock of unused Sprague Atom caps recently. They are all rated at 16uF, 500V and 65degC (as opposed to 85degC on other ones) and made in the USA. I've never seen an orange Atom before though.. What's the deal with these?

Re: Orange Sprague Atoms?
I think that the orange Atoms are just older, 70's vintage I think. You see them a lot in Dumble gut shots like #70 below. If you're gonna use them in a build you probably should reform them or bring the amp up slow on a variac - hopefully someone that knows more about doing that will chime in.

I had received some with a bunch of boxes of tubes and resistors recently.

Re: Orange Sprague Atoms?
I found some ancient OD's as well in the stash of orange atoms and grabbed everything I could. Lotsa good values for various Wreck and other types of builds. How do the older OD's compare to newer ones of the same series?

I believe the last of the orange/yellow sprague were produced in the late 80's early 90's. Same great caps as they make now. I'd make sure to test them before I put them into operation they are getting pretty old.
