Komet 45
I successfully coupled a Komet 60 pre-amp/PI to my JTM45 KT66 power tubes, and the amp sounds great. I didn't bother with the FAST/GRADUAL switch, and just used 100K on the second stage plate. I used the typical Hi/Lo input wiring from the JTM (1M/68K/68K). I didn't bother with the diode in the power supply ladder. Pre/PI Tubes are carry-over from the JTM: JJ ECC83-S (V1) /EH 12AX7 (V2) /EH12AX7 (V3). There is definetly more hiss from the first tube stage than in the JTM , and a more noticeable low freq hum that was also in my JTM45 but at a MUCH lower level..I need to check my cap grounding scheme on this matter. But, like I said , the amp itself sounds REALLY good at volume with the KT66's biased at 17W (70%). Supply voltages are 408/407/340/320/302, today (...you never know with FPL). I could add another 30-35 volts to these going to the higher secondary HT feeds to the rectifier, but for now I don't see a need.
Re: Komet 45
Sounds good but need photos, data info such as PT and OT used, thanks.
Re: Komet 45
OT is the Weber WOT45HHR, the PT is the Weber W022798, the recto is the Weber WZ34 copper cap, and the choke is a Weber W022699....all stock 6M45 kit parts. Same with the caps, even down to the stand-up cap board.M Fowler wrote:Sounds good but need photos, data info such as PT and OT used, thanks.
The amp screams..my wife went shopping with her sister, and so I've been running it balls to the wall for half an hour using my 92 Strat Plus loaded with Fender SCN p/u's (great p/u's, btw) . I noticed on the high F#, G, and G# I'm getting an octave lower harmonic in the tone both with the amp cranked, and with the amp vol on 4 but driving it with a Fulltone FD2 using a lot of clean boost. But no farting out or anything like that. I've never noticed this before with my other other amps/guitars....I need to investigate, and also try the Hamer with Duncan '59's.
I'll try and get some pics posted, but keep in mind this was a project on the cheap; I've got about $35 invested in it. And the board layout vs. the Marshall 4-holer control layout made for longer than desireable tone control wire runs.

Re: Komet 45
Looks good. The KT66 really have a great tone and the more I play my Rt 66 clone using JTM 45 iron the more I like the mid range of that amp.
This seems like a natural merge the K60 with a JTM-45, interesting.

Re: Komet 45
best thing about this is it is no longer a komet or a marshall clone. you can call it whatever you like!
Re: Komet 45
Yeah...I think I'll refer to it as the Nirvanawsaraceni wrote:best thing about this is it is no longer a komet or a marshall clone. you can call it whatever you like!
