Fender 6G6 (A or B)

Post by C Moore »

Pardon my ignorance, but what is the 350k - 70k tap? It is noted on the treble pot of the Normal Channel.
Thank You

Thanks Mark -
I am trying to figure out how these pots are wired. Please correct me.....
In the schematic, is the bass pot wired to lug #1, lug #2 wired to a cap going to ground, lug #3 is the wiper, and lug #4 is the other extreme of the pot that is wired to a .00025 cap ?
Thank You

That fourth lug off to the side is the tap which is wired to the wiper of the bass pot.

So, that 70k tap, is that 70k relative to the wiper? Where does it go exactly?

This is how I see those pots wired using Hoffman's pot I posted earlier.

Excuse the poor drawing but I believe this is correct.

That is not a grouding lug in this case :D that represents the 70k tap. :D

Okay so this morning I did a google and found this data.

Marsh sells this pot.
Weber sells this pot.

First attachment is just use a 250k pot and add the resistor to the circuit.

update. tested a little. first, the 6g6b circuit with the 350k reduces treble. the effect is obvious when treble is turned down but it also reduces a little treble when treble is turned up fully (comparred to a disconnected 70k tap). also a 250k and a 68k resistor will hardly do since the pot reads 350k, not 250k. (350k gives more treble and mids than 250k)

If you built the circuit using a 250k it wouldn't really matter then, right?

Here's a pic of an actual 1963 6G6-B clean channel tonestack. Notice how the treble/bass pot is wired. Although probably mechanically the same, there's a slight difference to what Mark's drawing shows earlier in this thread.
