Grounding Unused Triode Pins
I've seen several amps that ground unused 12A*7 triode pins ( Ex: Fender Blues Jr. V2a), and many that don't. Is it necessary/recommended, or just a nicety.

Re: Grounding Unused Triode Pins
Nicety. No potential between the cathode and plate means no current flows and no resistors or caps touching the floating tube means no noise contribution. Float it, leave the grid grounded, ground it all (be wary of cathode-heater potentials though!). I would think you could go as far as not heating up the second triode in a 12A*7, but this just seems excessive.

I'd ground 'em, paranoid of cathode poisoning killing the tube if just the heaters are running.
Life is a tale told by an idiot -- full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.
