It does work. The mic will be brighter due to the impedance mismatch, but that's a good effect to have in your back pocket sometimes. Better than that, if you can find a Lo-Z to Hi-Z impedance transformer, such as a Shure A95, the mic will sound more natural. Don't worry about the boost, just turn the amp upStructo wrote: If I adapt the XLR to a mini phone plug it may work.
The sound card even has a boost which may help a dynamic mic like the 57.

Hi Tom.
Not to be an enabler, but ART makes a one channel tube mic pre, for really low $$$... like $30.00USD... I think it's the Tube MP. It has a VU and a limiter function built in.
Really not a bad preamp, and it works as a DI / line level pre as well.

disclaimer: I don't work for any music wholesaler or retailer. I have the 2 channel version of this in my rack...

Thanks Bob, you have a few great sounding rebuilds yourself!Bob-I wrote:Clams... I love clams, steamed, fried, whateverBobW wrote:Here's a soundclip of my Bassman build based on the 50W ODS. Recorded via a simple Zoom H4 recorder using the built-in mics. It is what it is, clams and all.
Great sounding clip, cool build, gotta love recycling old amps.

Sounds very good. I got a '64 Bassman head and I just can't bring myself to convert it to a D style although i know it would sound killer. What kind of speakers/cab did you use on that clip?BobW wrote:Here's a soundclip of my Bassman build based on the 50W ODS. Recorded via a simple Zoom H4 recorder using the built-in mics. Tonegeek, it was a Thiele 806 cab loaded with an EVM 12S, 8 Ohms into a 4 Ohm amp. my 12L cab sounds a bit brighter but the 12S works well w/ this amp.Tonegeek wrote:Sounds very good. Hey Tom,
You can also try looking at this http://www.hollywooddj.com/helix-board-12-usb.html (USB) or if you have a FireWire port, then this one http://www.hollywooddj.com/helix-board-12-fw-mkii.html. I have the Helix FW 18 but have since upgraded to the M-Audio ProFire 2626. Maybe one of the two will suit you. Alesis has some good stuff too like Bob mentioned.

Re: Bassman 50W ODS build
I went ahead and ordered the ART tube preamp, I like cheap!
We'll see how it works.
