The Shure Company

Post by Structo »

Hey guys,
I while back a forum member was very generous to me after reading that I was interested in getting a microphone.
He sent me a Shure SM57, the good old work horse mic.

Unfortunately the shipper destroyed it. And that's saying something because those are rugged mics.
Anyway, I opened it up and top was broken and the diaphragm was trashed.

So I went to Shure's website and looked up their repair department.
Basically the instructions are to send the mic plus your credit card number and they will take care of it. Kind of funny but they said if they had to communicate with you it would take much longer to get to your repair.....
In other words don't bug them. You can set a maximum price not to exceed.
Anyway, a little over a week later I got a package from Shure.

A brand, spanking new SM57. Cost? $55. :D
Now I am not one to blindly send off my credit card number to anybody.
But I did some research and saw that they were trustworthy and had a pretty fast turn around.

So about half the retail price for a new one.
So if you have any old 57's laying around that have seen better days, it's a fantastic way to get a new mic.

So two thumbs up for the Shure Company. :D

Don't let that smoke out!

Some companies really do have excellent service.
Among other things, I have two german AKG451 condenser mic's. About 8 years ago, ifound that one of them was sounding awfully bright and harsh compared to the other one. It proved that "little fingers" had unscrewed the top bulb, and a foam insert was missing on one , -the other looking not so good either. I sent an E-mail directly to AKG explaining the problem, and asking where I could buy replacements, but also giving my full address.
After a couple of weeks without any response, an envelope landed in my home mailbox - with two new foam inserts........!
That's what I call service!

shure is awesome with warranty and repair issues.
flat rate repairs make it easier on both the company and the client.

They also offer excellent support per manuals and schematics! I don't know if they still do it, but they used to give you a schematic of your mic with variations of it as well. You could then wire it Hi-Z, Lo-Z or whatever.
