Wiring an Allen TP40D transformer

Post by calvin »

This is my first post here and I am hoping someone can help me with a snag I am having. I have an amp that blew the Weber W025130EU Power Transformer and I am replacing it with the Allen TP40D transformer. Could some one tell me which wires go where on the TP40D. I have the wire color and locations for the Weber carefully written down but the Allen uses different colors. I am very careful and knowledgeable with wire for wire changes but my amp skills are near zero so that is why I am in a jam. This is going into a 5E3 clone amp. Thanks if you can help.

I put a TP40 into an amp I built. I don't have the binder with me though. I think he uses standard colors. Red for secondary, red with a stripe for secondary center tap, green for 6.3V, green with a stripe for 6.3V CT, yellow for 5V. The primaries are probably both black. See if that matches up with the colors you see. Dollars to doughnuts, it does.

Thanks for the suggestions on my wiring adventure. I have all the important ones figured out and hooked up and now its down to just the power cord hookup. The Weber had a brown wire out from the PT that was connected to the white wire from the power cord and the black wire from the Weber PT went to the fuse post. My problem is the TP40D has no distinction for the two blacks that are the power lines. I am thinking about just using wire nuts for a quick ramp up to see if the polarity will be correct. Does that sound right to you guys and gals? Thanks, Calvin

The polarity at the power transformer primary doesn't matter. The important thing is that the hot wire from the AC cord (black, in the USA) is the one that's fused and switched.
