V1b coupling cap
I noticed when comparing a Tweaked D'lite layout and the #124 layout that most of the cap values are the same, except the V1b coupling cap. #124 has a .05mf and the D'lite has a .02 mf. I'm wondering what the effect on the OD tone would be by going from .02mf to .05mf or visa versa?
Re: V1b coupling cap
Tom, I'll have to try it,but I'm also curious to see if it would add a little more low mid range. I'm getting some decent OD tone out of my D'Lite, but it seems to lack that mid range magic that I here in some other clips. Especially the clip Gil re posted recently of #124.
One thing I did was change the Alpha vol pot to a 2W PEC pot. Seemed to help smooth OD a little more. I also made sure all components were mechanically fastened and resoldered them. That also helped a little.
So all these little steps are starting to get me there.

Re: V1b coupling cap
All the grail Skyline amps I have seen had a .05uf on CL2. Essential to the girth of the tone, IMHO.
Re: V1b coupling cap
Do you have mid boost on your amp?
I like that for less than gig level volume.
And since the mid boost incorpoarates the treble cap in it, you can change the upper regions with different caps.
What guitar are you playing through it most of the time?
Single coils seem to like a .05 mid cap better.
I have a switch to choose between .01 and .06 and it pretty much stays on .01
I do have a 250 mid pot.

Don't let that smoke out!

Re: V1b coupling cap
I don't have the mid boost in mine.
Guitars are;
PRS SC 245 with 245 Pups
96 Les Paul Stand.
89 Tele w/ Don Mare Pups
Strat that I built
The humbucker guitars and Tele sound great through the amp. The Strat just isn't cutting it. Actually the Tele is closest to what I consider the Dumble sound, at least what I'm shooting for.
I've been trying for sometime now, to cure that slight fizzy thing riding on top of the overdrive. It's gotten better, almost where I want to be.
I'm going to change that V1b coupler to .05 mf.
Voltages are;
V1 190-200
V2 200-210
V3a 290
V3b 284
427v on the plates of the 6l6's
I think I may also raise those PI voltages up about 15v.
I've also found that finding the right Pre amp tubes helped.
