Magnetic Componants Inc Transformers?

Post by azatplayer »

Are these guys ok? Just seen some on ebay sold from Triode electronics. Pretty cheap. 52 dollars US for a 50 watt plexi PT. Not a lot of cash.

yeah they're very very well made and good sounding.

I believe they're used by Two Rock who make some killer amps.

I have used a couple of sets of theirs that I purchased through triode. No complaints on the transformers and the service of Triode was good. MCI is not a new company, they have been around for thirty or more years.

I used quite a few of their Marshall and Fender trannies with great results.

They MC have been building transformers for many years.

Great iron, great price!

They started in 1943 building for the US military. They use older machines, probably not from the '40s any more but they still build the iron the old way, with paper and so on. Yes you can still get it Made in Chicago, USA!

I only use other iron when I can't get it from M-C's line.

Try 'em, Don, you'll like 'em!

Magnetic Components

Before you commit yourself make sure they can supply international voltage primaries. North American 120 volt primaries are not all that usefull Down Under. Output transformers are OK but please check
power transformers.

I love em. I had a hammond marshall replacement one then a heyboer that i tried in a marshall style homebrew and i finally tried the magnetic components set in it and i preferred it over the other 2. Close, but the MC did win me over, and the cost is a huge bonus. I used the whole set in my next build and it all works great. Good stuff. IMO no reason to look elsewhere.

Export Voltage PTs

M-C does do 120/240 on PTs. Some appear to be special order though.

I used an M/C set in a Marshall 2204 clone that I was happy with.

Same here w/the 2204.... I've also used many of their Fender replacements for various projects.

Well tried thru triode, but the shipping pricing part was too hard. had a look at MC'S website, they sell thru another company, Amp parts direct.
EASY! They had all the pricing there, was automatic and adjusted depending on what you got. So i ordered a set of 2, 50 watt Marshall trannies, cost me 157US to Australia shipped!!
I just ordered 3 trannies from Heyboer, and it cost me more than double that!
Of course the heyboer stuff is all made to my spec, which is priceless.
Looks like i got a few amps to get done!

Glad it is going to work out for you with those trannies.

Yeah its hard to know if one brand is better than the other, unfortunately there isn't a lot of comparison recordings between MC and other transformers. For quality in appearance and performance the MM, Edcor and Heyboer are up there. But for good quality and low cost you can't beat the MC transformers.

Customers on the other hand would probably want to see MM on their builds I think mostly because of advertisement, forums, mazine reviews and word of mouth. Sure they are excellent transformers but most of us just plain don't need them.

Yeah. What you said ;)

The thing that bothers me slightly, is the MC's appear a little undersized to what i might get in the same rating from heyboer. BUT, probably close to actual vintage sizes tho.
Anyways will see, er , hear how they go when they arrive.
Got some trannies coming from Heyboer to try that XITS build with. See how i go.. ;)

Yeah that Xits thread started off with a bang and died out quickly you need to get back to that and report

I would rather build the Retro-King 18w 212, the video floating around on that amp is a fantastic sounding amp.
