CE Boards

Post by ToneMerc »

I don't why anyone would whine about the price because if you ever built relay boards from scratch, even $60 a for a four board relay system would be a bargin.

I may pull the trigger soon on a couple of sets of FET and single relay boards that fit the CE chassis. I might entertain the thought of adding a half dozen sets as a courtesy, but I honestly I don't want the hassle of collecting different forms of payments, guys whining about the price or populating the boards.

If I decide to order some extras here's the parameters.

1. Fitment for CE chassis only: single relay (2) & FET board sets.
2. Bare unpopulated boards and bare means bare.
3. Will ONLY take payment via Paypal.

I like the option of additional relays for the bright and mid-boost as well. So, I'm also I'm thinking a double relay board too.

Keep us posted............ a single would be good for me. OD switching only on this build. Thanks, Mike

The chassis comes setup for 2 relays and a FET board, IMHO the hardest boards to make and I will offer them as a set. The boards can be only ordered in pairs so I'm not going to split the counts and offer single relay boards.

Initially, I really don't want to get into managing individual custom piece requirements. However, if I have a single relay board left over from one of my projects it's yours.

I'd be interested in a set. I recently got a CE chassis.

Same here ToneMerc, I would be in for a set.

If you follow Ampdoc's layout for the three relay and power supply pcb that would be cool.
I'm sure he would give permission to use his design.

I like running three relays.
The bright cap on clean option is a really good one that I implemented on my D'Lite.

What it does is turn on the bright cap when the amp is on the clean channel, then off when you switch to OD.

I would bet that everybody that bought a CE chassis will want a set of these pcb's. :D

I was interested in the relay boards but it appeared to me the board in question was like a Brown note circuit and not the #124 I want to build. So I was very unsure to proceed.

I have two chassis but need to get relays/boards for both.

This would be two relay boards as in #124. I would also need two FET boards if I could get those as well.

There is PCB layouts ic-racer contributed for all the boards in the ODS (except main eyelet) in the files section. I used them on my last 100W HRM and they worked great.

Tom, Ampdoc send me the pcb file months back and gave me his blessing to order a batch of his boards. However, that board style physically doesn't fit a traditional Dumble style chassis layout. Thus, I have no plans in following that 4 board style layout.

If you want to mount the relays as built in the CE chassis you will need a board no wider than .750, the Ampdoc boards are 1.200 wide. I did make up a 2 relay double sided board to fit the CE chassis hole spacing, but you won't be able to stagger the boards of course.

I have mocked up my chassis with G10 blanks, I'll take a picture and post it this evening.

I'm going to start a new thread for CE chassis relays, post the double sided relay files that I modified and the single sided pcb files sets that I will order as well.

Ah, I did not know that. Makes sense.

It really wouldn't bother me personally that much if I had to drill an additional hole or change the way the chassis currently laid out for those relay boards.
Like I said, at a bare minimum I need three relays, unless I get creative with the type of relay I use.
I like to have OD, PAB and the bright cap on Clean only relay (that is a great feature) That one is not foot switchable, it is triggered by the OD relay. WHen OD is on the bright relay is off.

Worst comes to worse, I know how to make relay boards using eyelets and G10 so no biggy if it doesn't work out.

I was just very pleased at the quality of the PCB's that I got from Ampdoc.
Were those PCB Express?
The screening, masking and plate through holes were nice

Yes they are PCBExpress boards. For those not using CE chassis, is there any interest in Ampdoc's board as he sold them but a COMPLETELY BARE board?

I figure if I bought 50 I could sell them to ampgarage members only for $12.00 each + shipping. This as way of giving back for all the knowledge and insight so freely given to me by all here.

Or maybe that board can be modified to shrink its width to 3/4". You'd have to delete the LEDs and go to single holes instead of double, and make the silk screened letters smaller.

That might have wider appeal. Opinions?

My BM 70 convert has a pretty skinny space between pots and board.
3/4 to 1" is all the space for comfortable fit.
Not concerned with LED spots myself.

Also, the boards are small enough to send in a small bubble-mailer (CD size)
shipping would be a buck and change.

Tonemerc,
I'd be interested in a set according to your parameters.

On the original Ampdoc relay boards, I didn't understand having the led and resistor on the relay board. So perhaps that is something that could be eliminated to save space. I had thought about at one time installing indicator led's on the front panel by my switches (D'lite) but I didn't because I didn't want to drill any more holes on the front.

At the time I was ready for relays, Ampdoc was out of his but Deric had made some out of G10 that worked fine so I ended up with those.
But I ended up pretty much ruining those due to over soldering and having the traces lift.
I contacted David and he still had a set he sold me.
Those are very high quality boards from ExpressPCB.
