I've a question or two re: Brownnote Blue Monkey...
I bought and received a Blue monkey 88 reverb kit from brownnote.
However, the touted " new comprehensive pictorial assembly guide and layout with voice switching and relays" is non-existent.
Worse, the pictures I was pointed to don't match my kit.
There is no schematic, and the layout was incomplete/incorrect.
So, I'm trying to figure out a relatively complex amp from unrepresentative pictures.
The attached (cropped ) picture is from Brownnote's forum announcement of the BlueMonkey 88 reverb kit...
I would check on the Brownnote forum, but it appears nobody goes there much these days...
Can somebody please tell me what the extra trimmer and cap in the upper left corner of the main board are, and what they are for?
I'm also confused about the filter board... I've seen the "precision"
filter layout with 2 main caps and 8 filter caps in banks of 4X2, and the "old school" layout with 2 main caps and 4 filter caps, but I'm lost on this one.
Any pointers?
TIA

Treble bleed mod for the entrance of the OD would be my guess. Lots of info on the forum about this mod.
Gawd, BrownNote has bad customer service, have heard nothing but bad stories about them.

Thanks for the reply...
I've seen your work, amps and pedals, and have always been impressed,
by the way...
I'd have to find out more about the treble bleed mod, but these components seem to be very far from the OD entrance...

Bob,
Difficult to see exactly what is connected to where on the pic, but I'd say it could be a Presence trimmer to replace the pot on the front panel?
Cheers,
Paul.

I might be wrong, but I don't think that specific layout was offered as a kit, only in a production BM 88. I built(BN Gallery: Blue Monkey 100 Reverb Build) the same amp, however I made my own boards via the stare and compare method. Also I moved the variable NFB control to an additonal reverb relay board that added.
1. Leftmost cap & trimmer: a hi-cut thats only activated in the PAB mode.
2. Power board: has additional nodes to feed each side of the reverb circuit and the reverb circuit has it's own dedicated filtering.
The built kits that I've seen are minus 1&2 and the variable NFB.
Another member built one from kit, verfiy if your boards look like this

Hi ToneMerc.
Thanks for the help.
You may be right about checking Brownnote.
'Cept I log in over there and there's very little if any activity.
People griping about waiting for months to years for kits, and
somebody else claiming it's in the mail...
And James somebody wanting to know "which end of the soldering iron do I hold, again?"
First off, how did your stare and compare monkey turn out?
My boards look more like the pictures you sent me to, (http://s5.photobucket.com/albums/y167/l ... nkey%2088/), at any rate.
The picture I posted is the one from the announcement of the new "flagship" BlueMonkey 88 reverb kit.
Has there been a schematic created?
Or any other documentation?
Bob

Was that info posted somewhere? Did I miss it?1. Leftmost cap & trimmer: a hi-cut thats only activated in the PAB mode.

Re: I've a question or two re: Brownnote Blue Monkey...
I believe the cap and trimmer connected to one side of the grid couplers is a Vox/Two Rock style cut control. Maybe a .002 to .005 and 250K trimmer.
Same as what TR puts on their contour control. Tames the Bluesmaster PI edge.
The other trimmer is inline with the NFB resistor and is to tweak the NFB.

Funk's last post was January 11th, so he don't come around here no more either.

No not posted, because AFIK the "flagship" amp picture that you posted isn't applicable to the kit version that was/is offered.
Here's your applicable docs

Re: I've a question or two re: Brownnote Blue Monkey...
I thought I posted what the trimmers do?
The filter caps are likely 400 or 450 volt rated and single caps for each node. Not precision power. Good use of space.

Bob you are lucky to get one of those kits.
You have about everything I do.
Other than the HRM boards.
