Yeah, it's just a tool to help you see what effect the loop is having without unplugging everything.

What shielded cable did you end up using?

Maplins (UK Radio Shack type place) RG174, the quality seems fine, not too much high end loss, certainly when I switch the brights on, they are too bright in my "hard" sounding living room. I like having the option to cut through a bit if and when needed, though.

Hey I was going to say that the stock .001uF bright cap on the Drive pot was way too much for me.

I changed that to 500pf (if I recall).
My notes say to use a 330pf to 500pf.

I generally don't use the bright switches on the D'lator.
I have the amp setup to have the bright on the clean mode and when I switch to OD it turns the bright off.

At super low volume I will turn the bright on for both.

You can get almost get a Marshall type overdrive with the use of those bright caps.

Hope this helps.

OK you asked for it, don't worry, Hiwatt won't be losing any sleep, I can tell you

I guess lead dress reflects life, I'm just not a very tidy person.

As they say in Sweden, lagom

All the best
Rog

PS I have just put an OOS Telefunken ECC83 in so I will see if I can hear the difference?
Any "must fit" recommendations for the tube?

I haven't managed to figure out how best to do it while keeping all the shielded wires in good order, despite a LOT of help from Structo

I haven't got the way it works in my mind yet, but I will do it, as it is very useful!

It is on my list at No.3

1 - Smooth/raw switch for OTS

2- Thin/fat switch (these to help with the strat sc sound)

3-bypass DONE

4 -(gulp) VVR. I will rig it and try it without any permanent changes to see if it will help)

Thanks again Angelo, your interest is appreciated :D

Rog,
Your lead dress isn't too bad but I would make a single star ground at the point between the board and pots.
Bring the ground from the jacks to there.

But, if you are not having any hum issues then don't worry about it.
Also I would try to use the least amount of coax cable you can get by.
If your top end seems muffled it could be that.

The bypass switch doesn't use any shielded cable if you locate it right above the jacks.

Maybe this diagram will help better.
You don't really have to install the switch, it's just a neat mod for the loop.

BTW,
How was the lettering done on your D'lator?
Looks nice.

OK Tom and Angelo, thanks to your combined info, the bypass is in and working!
Tom, I also moved the jack ground as you suggested. All seems relatively quiet. A bit of hiss when the recover out is at 2 o'clock, but this where it sound best at the moment.

Thanks guys, it really is a great addition to be able to A/B between amp and Dlator.

How great is this forum

Now I will wait for my neighbours to go out and then UP SHE GOES :D

Once I am happy with the overall sound, I will take it to my usual Sunday jam and see what the opinions are. Not this Sunday though, I am off to see Dan Baird and his band, as they are in London  :D

The lettering is standard Letraset, a real pain to apply neatly, the ones below the jacks are already coming off thanks to being poked with the lead tips, even though I fixed them with lacquer. May just leave it till I get some more patience...

This is how lead dress should look, but I'm always so keen to get it going and see how it sounds that hidden away tidiness seems to take a back seat

Got to hand it to the master, he did it all first...

What do you think the part is at the lower right corner, set in goop? Is it used to store fragile harmonics?

That's a cap connected to the primaries to ground to eliminate hum, switchable on the front. If the cap is colllapsing, the entire chassis is ac hot wire, Nowadays it's forbidden in most countries.
