I was playing mine for hours tonite and i fully agree. Nothing but MC iron for me for now on. No reason to go elsewhere. There is no better to be sure. theres different, and different may be someone's cup of tea. But thats subjective. Good stuff, cheaper than the rest, can't lose.

First gig

Post by dukeamps »

Hi, so i had the first gig yesterday, and i can say it was the mallorys that i didn't like in this amp, i Don't want to sound like a sales rep for MC, and I'm not, i'm just trying to find my best tone. The amp sounds really fantastic, just turn the amp up to 6 on the bright ch and thats all you will need, roll back the vol on your guitar, and you get a decent clean.

This amp also likes pedals, and yes it is very loud, but in a nice way.
I wouldn't use a 100w pt in a 50w, because it might sound too stiff, i think thats all part of the sound, i mean, that the power pt is under a bit of stress.
see how it runs tonight :D

going to build a 100w now

Thanks

This actually what I said
But nothing wrong with going with the 100w iron to keep the amp stiff.
I like using larger PT iron but I bought the MC in a set very cheap so decided to just use what I had the 50w PT and it sounds great.

Are the MC trannys the same ones Triode sells ? If so , I used one to replace a Vibrolux OT and sounded thin and harsh compared to the Original .
Maybe Triode sells other makes too. They said it was American made. And had multiple Taps. Glad to hear they make a good Marshall replacement.

Ally my MC trannies have been clearly marked so there would be no guessing who made them, so not sure how to answer you Billy.

Well, it was a couple of years back. I don't remember the markings. Maybe triode changed suppliers since then.

Going through Mojotones catalog it seems they are offering some MC as well based on the discription and pictures.

I don't know if they are better or worse than others but I sure enjoy getting more amps built because of their price and I like how they sound but you know how that goes :D Subjective likings.

I do have bad ears and tinnitus along with an attitude, so maybe would sound bad to the next guy? :)

To clarify; they are sold through Triode Electronics, Amp Parts Direct, and are the generic unmarked made in USA transformers from CE/AES. They may be available as generic replacements from other too...

Hi everyone, so here is a little update from the amp. I have now added a 3 way switch mod, 1 plexi norm 2 mid boost 3 modern. Here is a couple of clips from the bright ch, and then the cascade mod ch.
As always just recorded at home.

Nice tone Duke! Both sound good.

I bought two more M-C Twin OTs y'day, the standard 4 ohm only unit. I was going to buy one, and the shipping to Canada was $46!!. On a $68 order!!

So I checked out what two was, and the shipping went up to $55, so I bought two. I know US shipping rates are a lot lower (used to live there, I'm a dual citizen) but to Canada it is getting ridiculous.

Hi David, Thanks for you comments. The price is really great, i paid 155 euros for the set, and that included the post, noone even comes close to that here in Germany. There is a lot more gain on tap, on both clips, the vol was at 6, and the master on full.

Thanks

Dukeamp, by chance would you happen to know if MC transformers make something for or similar to the 45/100 Super Amp. Costs for MC's allows for upgrade of other components. Thanks Bob

Hi, I think they only have a set for a jcm800 100w, but i think it would be ok to use.

Hi Duke-
Just checked your thread and listened to your new clips.
You've got that thing sounding great, really ripping.
Good job man!
