Anyone know anything about these? i have a VC30 with a very noisy drive channel. Pretty sure it's more than the usual amount of hiss you'd expect from a higher gain channel. The clean channel is alright, i guess. Not wonderful.

Pretty sure there are multiple ground/earth bonding points, not ideal i suppose.

Doesn't seem to be plate resistors or cathode resistors.
Don't think i've ever personally come across noisy coupling caps, anyone else?

It's PCB so pretty slow going...

Seems the volume control on the drive channel doesn't mute the signal. But the pot's ground is ok. i've seen something like this in a peavey 5150 before. i gave up on that amp. (circuit boards make me cry)

Does the noise get any better or worse when you rotate or switch out the preamp tubes? I've seen a noisy one of these before and it turned out to be a bad 12ax7...after spending a lot of time chasing other things.

Nope. New JJ 12AX7 and no change.

i can help with Super Groups, and klipps. if it's overly noisy and over 10years old look at the filter caps. Assuming the tubes have all been tested and or replaced with known good tubes. are you sure it's the amp and not the power source you are plugged into? just saying bad lighting can do funny things to amps if they share the same power.

Everything looks good.

Not lighting, not power.

It's a hissing, a little more "body" than with your average noisy plate resistor.

Well, correct me if I'm wrong, but hiss will only come from tubes or resistors, and I believe you'll be able to find the culprit with a little more good detctive work. And don't rely on the authority of "tested" tubes or whatever. I've gotten a handful of JJ 12AX7s from one of their most trusted dealers that were all hissssssssssssing away....

After finding the cut remains of a couple of coupling caps, something tells me that someone has done something to pump too much gain into this thing. That MIGHT explain the "way too much" noise.

We shall see.

i've given up on it though. Even after (sort of) bypassing the solid state stuff, it's still doing it. With the PCB layout and pots and all that, it's going to take forever to do anything about anything. There's a point where you ask yourself, "why go through this pain all over again? There's a reason i hate working with PCBs."
