Good news! Changed the power tranny today. Bought a hammond 290DEX.
The amp sounds much better, and my problem with the loss of volume and tone are gone now.
Seems like I got a bad tranny from ceriatone.
I started this amp as a kit, but there are only the chassis, preamp board minus electrolytic , and the relay boards and supply left. The rest is changed to other parts. I will soon finish my ODS 100w build also,(non kit), and post some clip of both amps. Thanks to all you guys who helped me, and to this forum, that makes it possible for me to build my own D- amps.

I wonder why the transformer fixed it... does this really happen to some of your transformers?

I was thinking it was a bad grid leak resistor... maybe wrong power rating... maybe changing transformer changed the current to where the resistor wasn't heating up/increasing resistance.
"during normal operation the grid becomes hot (since it is close to the cathode) and will emit a few electrons, and so will become positively charged unless a leakage path is provided to replenish the charge lost. If the grid is allowed to charge positively, anode current will increase, which increases valve temperature, making the problem worse."
