it can get a bit crazy sometimes i can say that i bought a quad of nos valvo el34s they are the same as the old mullards, got them for 70 euros, could not believe my luck. there i can hear a difference really nice.

The Magnetics Components iron is good too. I have build some great amps with those. Sweet and powerfull.
See how this all is , Everyone has a different taste, and rightly so, it would be a boring old world if we all used the same stuff. You are right about the Magnetic components, they make very good iron.
I'd like to know if the Chinese he used are the older B type like i have or the latest ones. That could be the reason for the difference in opinion. I know it's subjective and all, but as good as the Chinese i have are i can't imagine many people not liking them.

I built a jmp 50watt, and its true that the pt can get quite warm, but i don't think there is anything to worry about. I also decided to go with mallory-150 caps this time, and also done the one wire mod, and a mv. I have made a couple of quick demos for anyone who is interested. The tubes i have used are v1 rft v2 tungsram v3 rft & rft el34s.
Hi, I thought i give yous all a update with the amp. So i was quite happy with the amp until the first gig i had, and something did not sound right, so i ended up not using it It just sounded not open enough, so i changed the mallorys to sozo caps, and i think that was it, now it sounds the way i like it, just have to break the sozos in, and i think all will be good. Just done a little demo nothing special, if yous are interested here is the link. http://soundclick.com/share?songid=9143382 Just used one mic to record it.
That sounds great.
Nice job man.
I like the Sozos also. I'm kind of surprised you
found a difference with the Mallorys-they are a classic also.
The Sozos do sing though.
Enjoy!

Hi Teleguy61, Thanks, I think the mallorys sound also good, but like you said the sozos sing better.

Hi Rob, Thanks, I'm just trying to give back what i have learned from this forum. If everyone shares there ups and downs then we all can learn from one and other.
If you want to accelerate the break-in on the Sozos then pull the power tubes and stick an iPod in the front end on repeat for a couple of days with the controls dimed.

Works a treat!
Hi Paulster, That sounds like a good idea, i will have to rig something up.
Ok, i now know what for me at least works. I built the new amp with MC iron about 6-8 weeks ago. Marhall 50 watt iron. Today after long feeling my old hammond 1750n may be the better OT i swapped it in there. Now for every piece of gear out there you find people that like it and hate it. But i gotta tell you, with the hammond in there it plain sounds better. Richer harmonics, better dynamics, and fuller sound. i seriously don't think anyone who A/B'd them in this amp at least would disagree. The MC PT seems fine tho. However, after that thread where i asked about it's current rating i'm thinking it too is not the way to go. The choke is fine, but no more MC PT's or OT's for me. The PT is just too under rated, or at least assuming the specs aren't listed way lower than they really are, and the OT just doesn't have the best tone. It's not going to make a great amp sound less than great, but like pickups in a guitar, so will be much better than others even if the wood's basic voice is always there with either.

Hi iknowjohnny, sounds like you have had a bad time with that ot from mc. But i can say that at my first gig i did not use the amp, because it just did not sound right, don't get me wrong it sounded good, but not what i'm used to. My giging amp is a jmp 50watt with hammond pt ot and choke, and it sounds to me fantastic, But after changing the caps it is sounding more like my other amp. I will try the amp at my next gig and see how i feel with it. By the way what type of caps do you use.
I'm using mallory for signal caps. I wasn't saying the OT sounded bad, just that the hammond sounds better. You know when you try something and you just go wow, thats the $#@% ! But it sounded fine with the MC. Like the difference between a 7 on a scale of 1-10 and a 9. Both good, one is very noticeably better tho. If i end up selling a few of these which looks likely at this point, i will definately be using hammond stuff, or at least the OT. Mot sure whether the 100w MC PT is worth using or if i should just go with hammond. Probably about a 20 buck difference i think.
