Are these caps any good?

Post by culturejam »

I'm not much of a NOS cap fanatic, so I thought I'd get the group's input on the caps shown below. A buddy of mine ended up with a buttload of these and wants me to help him sell them.

So, do these have a decent value, or are they just kinda "meh"? Sorry to be so naive.

Thanks!

You might want to cut one of the Spragues open and see how it's contructed. The original "Black Beauty" caps were paper-in-oil; the last ones were mylar. At 600V with the red markings, I'd guess mylar.

There are several values. The guy has a maybe a couple hundred of the spragues. Same for the orange drops.

Thanks for the input!

Fender blue were Mylar.

The paper oil black beauty caps are sought after in guitars as tone caps ie Les Paul customs of the 60's and 70's

you can get real $ for tested " good" nos caps.
Otherwise as a rule old caps are prob dead or dying and buy at your own risk.

Sozo has reissued a blue cap for fenders you might be able to use that as a price guage.
