Has anyone tried........

Post by boldaslove6789 »

Has anyone tried using a Fender style 6g15 standalone reverb unit in the loop w/ or w/out a D-lator in their d-style amps? If so how was it compared to a digital unit (pedal or rack style)?

No but if I unpack my '62 brown 6G15 and try it in my #124 I could compare it with a Holy Grail (basic model). We only moved a year ago..... don't ask.

What are your expectations tonewise?

LOL....I won't ask. If you could try that would be awesome!! I have a Holy Grail verb too so it could give me a faint idea.

I was hoping it would work well w/ a d-style platform (in the loop) but had concerns that it wasn't designed for such use and that it may need to be modified. It will be noisy also.

I'm ordering parts now to build one in a 1u space rack and expecting a D-lator in the mail soon so I'll try it and post some vids/clips of it after I experiment .

I need Verb and I'm not really a fan of digital units (although I've only tried a few in the loop and don't want to judge by those experiences, and also because I did not use a d-lator either). The only + 's I've had w/ digital units is that there quiet and versatile
( at least the few that I've tried).

The best device so far for me is a Fuchs verbrator – PARALEL digial reverb and loopolator in one small box. No tone lose at all.

I use one and it sounds great. Different than in front of the amp and very sensitive to reverb settings, but wonderful to me. I've heard about impedance problems and the like, but works great for me.

I've just read in an old interview with Robben Ford, that he used 'an old, brown standalone Fender spring reverb' on Mystic Mile.

Sounds like you're in good company.

Cheers,

Paul.
