Post by JamesHealey »

Were the Grey OT's Stancor? and the Black Pacific?

Or were the Grey OT's an earlier Pacific?

"Were the Grey OT's Stancor? and the Black Pacific?"

I've always thought this was the case, though I have seen really old Stancor OTs that were black with a logo tag on them too.

Both of my 3801's are black. I thought it was all of the Pacific OT's that were grey and the Stancor ones black.

What was the main application these Stancors were used in? Hifi or mono block systems?

I noticed in the pic the leads are plastic coated on the grey not cloth like the black ot. Was this change in color and manufacturing the same time Ken switched to pacifics?

Hmm.. All of my Stancors have cloth covered wire. The later ones are cloth covered vinyl while the earlier ones are actual cloth covered paper insulations. I wonder if there is any tonal difference there.. :)

as was posted, the early ones were more cloth covered, they were black, and had the stamp in the side of the bells with the logo. And the bells are wrapped over the edges.
The later ones were black too, but the bells werenot wrapped, and cloth wire leads. As they went on, they were grey, with the PVC type wire as shown in the pics. I also have some later Hifi OTs that are grey.
I have listened to all of these, and they sound the same. Ken probably was running out of stock of Stancors, and had some people make trenaformers for him like Pacific, heyboer and others..
