Parallel Push-Pull 6V6

Post by skyboltone »

Is 5K too many for the primary impedance with 315 on the plates? I figure to bias at about -32 and experiment with a couple of pre circuits.

I know BobS runs something similar but I think he's up around 400VDC like Leo used to do.

5k would be alright. It's like using two 6V6's with a 10k plate load so realize that you are going to get more power amp distortion and a slight loss of power this way.

Dan... I did an amp a few years ago with a 4x 6V6 output. I think what I used was about a 5.6K output using a Bassman OT with multiple speaker taps. Honestly I'm not sure if this is the best way to go. The OT blew and I'm not sure if it was caused by the impedance mismatch or a bad 6V6.

I'd go closer to 4K, which is what it's running now.

Also, I measure my bias by the pairs, so I'm running about 50ma on each pair. I don't know the -bias voltage though, I never measured it.

That makes sense. It's the normal way we do things. Leo just spells out 32 volts on the Princeton.

I'm looking to go clean. Probably not the best way with 6V6. It's going to be a pedal steel amp and I'm thinking about iron I already have. I've got three HiWatt chassis but no really suitable iron. I've got two 6.6k (5791) OT from Hammond Organ amps. The book calls for 6CA7 or KT-66 in the HI-FI World at that ohmage. It will have to be a low gain pre though to make it do what I want. Maybe just build a straight up HiWatt and play with that. D103. Imagine "Breathe" done on pedal steel. Gilmour uses a lap steel on a stand. I think it's a George Board.
