Re: dr z mazerati gt
Yeah where in Austin are you? I'd love to come meet a fellow forumite next time I'm in Austin.

I set up shop in my garage. I am as busy as I can be doing repairs and building a few.DR.Z wrote: Great Bill welcome back to the lower 48.
Thanks for fixin' up that JR before someone from TGP played it : )
Did you open a store ?

I know how great your amps are and I have heard all the sour grapes from the wanna be's. You did a lot for me and will never forget it, thanks.

If you were talking to me, come on by .

I may be in Dallas for the guitar show this month. I am building up some guitars for a guy who is trying to start up a guitar co.
(if he gets the rest of the parts in time). He wants one of my amps for demos in his booth.
Re: dr z mazerati gt
Z - could the maz gt be made with a loop?

Not really.
The cascaded gain of the GT doesn't allow for a simple Series loop, signal is TOO high way above line level for the Send.
A buffer loop might work but could also alter the tone.
The GT is a simple one tube gained up pre-amp driving EL-84's to the max.

Hi all, I see the amp is discontinued, so I hope I'm not out of line by asking.
If doing a build on this, would it be unwise to try:
a solid-state rect. If that would work, should the PT voltage be 260ish?
split-load cathode bias? Or does the amp not need a matched quad?
If these would work on that amp, would anything else in the circuit have to change as a result?
Does anyone have any opinion on doing those?
Thanks...

Re: dr z mazerati gt
The Maz GT uses 290v I believe with a GZ34 so if you want to go with SS use the 260v secondary HT.
The power tubes are cathode bias with 50R/10w and 220uf/50v you could use a metal power resistor 50R/25w like the TW Rocket uses.
Use a matched set of JJ EL84s. Screens are 1k/5w.

Re: dr z mazerati gt
Thanks for the info. Does it need a matched quad, or 2 matched pairs?
Re: dr z mazerati gt
You can PM me for a schematic. The amp's really simple, and sounds good, but too much gain hitting those little EL84s for my personal taste. You could also build a A Top boost AC30 with tonestack bypass and be pretty close.
Re: dr z mazerati gt
You can run split load bias if you like.
Re: dr z mazerati gt
Thanks guys!
