Jeff Beck RR Hall of fame

Post by KT66 »

For some reason the other night, my wife was flipping channels and she stopped for a few minutes on the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction show for a few minutes. There was Jeff Beck, doing an instrumental version of The Beatles Day In the Life, and my jaw dropped open to see something that cool on network TV. That's the kind of guitar playing that inspired me to take up the guitar as a teenager. Due to the magic of the internet, here it is if you missed it :

The flamboyant percussionist behind Beck looks like Ray Cooper who did some of the 24 Nights gigs with Eric Clapton.
Great videos 8) Thanks for sharing.

Was that the cue ball with the tambourine?

On the 24 Nights DVD, it looks like he just has short hair. He seems to be seen with some big artists.

I'd highly recommend Live At Ronnie Scotts DVD (standard and HD). You can rent it from Netflix. Very well done. I'm always amazed by Jeff's playing - he's also been a major influence on me. His control over the guitar is just mind boggling.

Thanks for posting that clip Benoit, really cool. I don't know why I'm not more familiar with Jeff's work. I think I will get the DVD Kec recommended and try to remedy that.

I caught the whole RRHOF show a few days ago and it was not bad. It's always cool to see Fogerty, and to see Billy Joel tinkle the ivories, but the highlight for me was The Boss and The Big Man doin' Jungleland like it still really meant something to them.

....Outside the streets on fire in a real death waltz
Between flesh and what's fantasy and the poets down here
Don't write nothing at all, they just stand back and let it all be
And in the quick of the night they reach for their moment
And try to make an honest stand but they wind up wounded, not even dead
Tonight in jungleland

One of my favorite albums is Beck, Bogart & Appice Live in Japan '74(double album). I used to have the Japanese vinyl import - not the U.S. single album release.

Something I ran across recently is some vids with Jeff's guitar tech talking guitars and amps.

I can't think of another electric guitarist with the complete command of his instrument that Beck displays. Been my favorite since 1966!

Mr. Beck is surely my favorite. What a technician and MUSICIAN. He has the most idiosyncratic right hand in the business. It is married to the Strat and the way he simultaneously plucks, controls volume, tailpiece and bar is amazing to watch.

The Ronnie Scott's DVD has some remarkable moments. Check out the Imogen Heap song called Blanket. Great playing and I love the way the feedback he coaxes at the song's end matches her vocal line. That's amp control.
