I'll need to listen for this sometime with my original. It's kind of like "I don't want to know", jees yet another thing to worry about! That said my friend Hubie says he's noticed his wreck sounds better with the bottom mounting bolts not tightened too much. Apparently Ken showed him that trait years ago. Apparently with the 4 bottom bolts overtightened the amp doesn't sound as good. That said, I tend to be careful in that department as years ago I stripped out of the nutserts in my original and had to get a replacement from Ken. As far as wood goes I'm not sure about all this, though when I built my two clones I did use Cherry. I think Ken even mentioned he couldn't get Cherry from the same place as he used too, and in that light his amps were going to sound different with wood from another source...
Interesting!

Re: Tonal difference in cabinet versus out.
I know that my '69 Super Bass sounds different with the pre-amp cover shields on and off.. so maybe something as sensitive as a wreck would be shielded by a cab.. i find that somewhat plausable.
I swear to god this little 5W'er I made for a friend was so senstive to wire placement and cab choice, speakers etc.. spent days fine tuning it to the nth degree in a studio and by the time we'd finished I think it was the best sounding amp i've ever heard im really proud of that one.

Re: Tonal difference in cabinet versus out.
There are a few full range, tuned pipe style speaker designs floating around out there I have built in different wood types that sound different and anyone can hear it. I've built the Voigt Pipe out of MDF, Pine , and cabinet grade ply with a different tone out of each one. I just never expected it to have an effect on my amp sitting in it, but I heard it. It makes sense , we use foam and cork to damp the caps and chassis , why wouldn't the cabinet matter ? Great opinions everyone , thanks.

I think you do just fine geetarpicker wringing every last drop of tone out of your amps to need to worry about anything else. When I need a lesson in control I check out your you tube clips. Thanks for the new materialgeetarpicker wrote:I'll need to listen for this sometime with my original. It's kind of like "I don't want to know", jees yet another thing to worry about!
