Who has built an Express with either a Fender or Marshall 4K OT? How did it turn out?
I used a 5K 30watt Edcor hi-fi OT in mine and think it sounds great. Just wondering if the cheaper Fender or Marshall replacement OT's would sound as good. I built a Blackface 6L6 Deluxe using a 40watt Hot Rod Deluxe OT and it has a nice big bottom, even though it's a good bit smaller than the Edcor 30watt OT. The 50watt Marshall is smaller too.

Re: Express OT on the cheap
I built an Express combo using JTM45 iron I believe, have to look.
Sounds good has same treble, high gain and high volume roar my two other Express amps have and they both have different iron.

a OT thats missmatched could be ok
a 50w OT 3,5k missmatched to 7K would be ok i think .
Re: Express OT on the cheap
I found my build info.
mojo 769 Tweed Super/Bandmaster OT 6k primary with 4/8 ohm
JTM45 PT 350-0-350 you stay at 300v or less range.
But for a regular wreck you could try a Hammond or Edcor or something close to the TW specs. The JTM45 PT is over powered for this purpose
