Trainwreck Forum Newbee needs transformers for build

Post by piperbob »

Hi guys, I recently got the Trainwreck urge after seeing some YouTube demos. I've ordered a chassis, faceplate & naked circuit boards from Ceriatone and a cabinet from GabTone. Now I need an output and power transformer. Do any of you know which supplier/dealer has them currently for sale? I looked at Mercury Magnetics prices and don't want to spend that much +$500  Any tips would be appreciated.

It depends on what you want there are two suppliers on this forum.

Allynmey for Pacific transformers

rjguitar for Pacific, Heyboer and Edcor

Have a great day :!:

Congrats and welcome to the forum. You seem rather eager but I would suggest that you slow down and do some research before you make some very expensive missteps. If you were looking at MM trannies for an Express that would lead me to think you have not done your homework. I don't know of anyone who is using MM in Twainwrecks. There are plenty of guys who can help and there is plenty of info on this forum." I can personally vouch for the iron RJ sells. From what I have heard Allenmey is great also. Search" is your friend. In the TW files section is a BOM with suggested parts and sources. There are guys on here who from time to time offer some of the harder to find parts for sale at reasonable prices. Take your time and enjoy the ride. Don't rush a 'Wreck!

Welcome Piperbob!

Pacific Trannys are generally thought of as "more original" as Ken used some in his amps I believe.

I've had great experiences with Heyboer (as I am sure many others have) and used them in a great sounding Express build.

I've been really wanting to try the Edcor TFs though. I've only heard good things about them especially from rjguitar!

Decisions... decisions...

Good luck and enjoy the process!

Thanks for the tips guys. mcrracer, no way in hell would I ever pay that much! I was just curious. I looked a Ceriatones site and saw his prices but looked at shipping. Wow! I figured shipping close to $100 from Malaysia by looking at his shipping charts. I'm on a fishing expedition now. I've already sent off a couple of emails and got responces the last hour.

And you've got to ask why you'd pay for a Mercury Magnetics 'upgrade' transformer when the original transformers are actually available, and really don't warrant any unfounded 'upgrading'.
