Re: Best-sounding Wreck version...
do you know which rocket BP has?
Re: Best-sounding Wreck version...
No Richie, I'm sorry, but I don't know which one he has. I guess that I should have asked. I was told that it was purchased from Ultra Sound. I was really hoping to see his Liverpool, but he didn't have it with him.
Re: Best-sounding Wreck version...
That means he bought..."Marcy"? that is still at Ultrasound webpage priced at 44,500.
or he got the unfinished rocket? or a new reissue?

Re: Best-sounding Wreck version...
To be back to the original question....
The express is a great amp but with some limitations, is not for everybody, not really average guitar player friendly, it doesn't take pedals well and if its not biased right and tubed right it could be a mess. Also high gain humbuckers don't sound right throught it and is picky about speakers as well.
I think most people here has read the original trainwreck brochure, liverpool amp was voiced to be played with single coils to be dynamic. With humbuckers it becomes almost a shredders amp so that is a limitation.
The Rocket is the most stable of the 3 circuits because it was designed to be a TWEAKED ac-30 but still if the components and building process are not right the clone although good sounding won't be able to be as dynamic as an original.

Re: Best-sounding Wreck version...
I had a conversation with a gentleman who is employed by BP and he told me that Brad had bought a Rocket. This fellow volunteered that the amp had been purchased from Ultrasound for $45,000. I really wish that I had asked which one, but I didn't.redshark wrote:That means he bought..."Marcy"? that is still at Ultrasound webpage priced at 44,500.

Re: Best-sounding Wreck version...
That makes sense for his style of playing, and his obsession with AC30s and their derivatives.
I always thought the Liverpool wasn't the right kind of amp for what he plays.

Re: Best-sounding Wreck version...
It had to be Marcy, that was the only Rocket at Ultrasound.

Thus, if the components and build ARE done well, it may well be able to be as dynamic as an original.redshark wrote:The Rocket is the most stable of the 3 circuits because it was designed to be a TWEAKED ac-30 but still if the components and building process are not right the clone although good sounding won't be able to be as dynamic as an original.
What's the point of doing a bad build?
Re: Best-sounding Wreck version...
Nobody tries to make a bad build but I have the understading that some of the original rocket specs were unknown for a while here at the forum since there's only 6-8 originals. I think now is pretty much known but even if someone built a clone 3 years ago the circuit is kinda forgiving so it's gonna sound very good anyway. That is what I was trying to say but built with the right specs it sounds even better.
Re: Best-sounding Wreck version...
The Rocket makes sense because the other Z amps he has are based off the Rocket such as the Maz, RxES, Stingray and Zwreck Brad owns and uses. Granted a EF86 tube is used in some of these amps.
