Re: Brand New Trainwrecks?
So, I emailed the guy asking about his amps, I will say he is very timely. He emailed back in less than 4 hours, pretty quick considering everything he's doing (assuming he's legit, which I have no idea if he is or not).
new Wrecks
A guy on TGP ordered one said it would be 8 months to get!!
Re: new Wrecks
I saw that. I hope it's worth his wait2tone wrote:A guy on TGP ordered one said it would be 8 months to get!!
Not likely as the dude seems to not care about wasting $$$.
Also, what's the big secret as to who JM and JD are? Don't you want to know who the builder is before you plunk down $4K+ for an amp?
Eardrums!!! We don't need no stinkin' eardrums!
Re: Brand New Trainwrecks?
Like I said a desposable income market for the amp which is alright I guess. It sounds like the guy has the cash and wants to show everyone he was one of the first to order. Personally I won't build for anyone who just has the cash because I rather see my work in the right hands of what they are intented for. I guess I have a different view of why I build then most.

Re: Brand New Trainwrecks?
I have thought about these new Trainwrecks and I think I like the idea. I will point out that they are being called Trainwreck REISSUES. I think that is an important distinction. I also don't think that $4,000 is a bad price for an official Trainwreck reissue, as there are boutique builders that charge that much for clones or inspired amps and they don't have the original amps official branding, or access to the parts, build notes, and tube stash of the original builder. Take all of that into consideration and $4,000 is a reasonable price.
I still have some pause, which I think is what the biggest complaint is about, since Ken is not building/voicing them. I think calling them reissues, and making an attempt to get a product as close to possible as Ken could have built it, is a great attempt to meet market demand for an amp that would otherwise cost you $30k+, and resolves that issue as much as is humanly possible considering Ken is no longer with us.
I could see someone like Brad Paisley or Mark Knopfler playing a few Trainwreck Reissues. I hope they build some other models, especially the Dirty Little Monster. If I had the money and needed the volume, I would consider buying one.
For now, I am happy with my much quieter (and cheaper) Lil Devil!

Marshall makes reissues too. If you want a great new plexi you go to Metropoulos though.

Re: Brand New Trainwrecks?
UPDATE: he said the general price for his amps would be around $4500-$5500.
Re: Brand New Trainwrecks?
The reason for the waiting list is simple, If the buyer does not like the amp and wants a refund it gets sold to the next person in line on the list.
You know it's not because of demand right now.
Another thing is the Rocket amp working a slow pace takes about four days to make, and lets say 60 days of fine tuning if you like on the one amp. Now 8 months for an amp does not add up, it's sounds like they are adding the hype to make the demand. Just my opinion. I could be wrong

They are going to resume working on Ken's old list of orders before he died.ckpop wrote:The reason for the waiting list is simple, If the buyer does not like the amp and wants a refund it gets sold to the next person in line on the list.

Re: Brand New Trainwrecks?
Sounds like there are other models coming; Express, Liverpool, and Trem-Rocket all will be available. Maybe he could be convinced to build a Dirty Little Monster.
Re: Brand New Trainwrecks?
Old list, thats fair but JM will have some big shoes to fill on his own and that will take time. He has a good starting point and the rest is up to him and his ability.
Hey look I feel that if someone truly believes in what they are doing and has the skills, more power to them.
I spend alot of time on tour and deal with pro players on a personal level day to day. If they asked me what I thought of of the new Trainwrecks I would be honest and say wait until the results come in before you go after one if that is what you want. That is pretty fair wouldn't everyone agree ?
Be skepital but at the same time everyone has the oppotunity to prove themself.

SIXTY DAYS of TUNING!ckpop wrote:Another thing is the Rocket amp working a slow pace takes about four days to make, and lets say 60 days of fine tuning...
Noodlin' or dinkin' perhaps but SIXTY DAYS of TUNING???
There just aren't that many components in a Rocket that could be changed IF is person knows what they are doing and aren't just locked into chasing their tail 'round in circles.
Re: Brand New Trainwrecks?
LOL That was just an example to try to explain the 8 months time if you order one from JM when honestly takes me about two weeks to build and get the amp in the pocket. If you read after my comment they are going off of ken fishers old list that would explain the time.
Also how high are your standards and your satisfaction with the way the amp sounds before you let it out the door ? Thats what takes the most time with a trainwreck build.

Re: Brand New Trainwrecks?
Well as far as Brad Paisley tryng one out he has the Dr Z amps and a few are based off the Rocket. Mike Zaite, Brad P. and Ken F. worked together on a few amps and based on Dr. Z's new video they determined the Z was so close to an original TW.
