Has any one tried a 6v6 or an EL84 Rocket using ultralinear taps? Thanks.

Nothing wrong with this. UL has gotten a bad rap, but it depends a lot on the tubes used, the transformer, the voltages etc.

Use a screen resistor (in any case) on each power tube, you can use a triode/pentode switch (put an extra screen resistor on the plate lead to the switch btw to minimize switch pop), and you could also make a UL/Screen supply switch as well. Then you would have three options for output stage configuration, all with their own unique voice. Have fun !
